Where’s the black pudding in my breakfast, Aer Lingus?

The Flight Detective
An unknown error occurred.

Regular readers will know that I absolutely adore the Aer Lingus full Irish Breakfast. Managing to purchase one means a really filling start to the day and sometimes I’ll even hold off eating beforehand to leave space for it. You can imagine my surprise when I found the latest breakfast was missing the pudding.

My flight was from Dublin to Madrid in AerSpace, which is the first row of the Airbus A320 with a middle seat free. You also get free food so I was looking forward to devouring breakfast.

Check-In

Aer Lingus have self-service check-in kiosks in Terminal 2 at Dublin. Since I had a bag to check-in for a change, I used these for the first time. It turned out to be quite simple to print and add the tag to my bag and then leave it at bag drop.

From there it was up the escalator to Fast-Track security, which I zipped through as usual, and then landed in the Aer Lingus lounge. After a few bits to eat and a couple of hours, it was time to board.

AerSpace customers have reserved overhead bins on the Airbus A320, which meant I had plenty of space for my bag. I sat down and checked out my surroundings.

It’s not really possible to stretch your legs out completely in that row. While there is no danger of anyone reclining into you, you lose out in the leg room a little bit. Soon enough everyone was on board and we took to the sky.

Where’s My Black Pudding?

Once we were in the sky, the crew took a little time before they started service. Eventually they came by and I asked for a breakfast. Since they never seem to load many, the crew had to check with the back galley before confirming they had one. Happy days!

In the past, the breakfast featured sausages, bacon, potato, black pudding, white pudding and tomato. You can see it here – and I have always loved it. Nowadays, it’s the same except the white pudding is no more. Imagine my surprise when I found my breakfast had no pudding whatsoever.

The pudding is what makes it an actual full Irish Breakfast. Otherwise, it’s just a bog standard run of the mill breakfast you could have anywhere. Perhaps they just had run out of pudding, which is why I received an extra potato medallion.

When ordering, I had asked for an Iced Coffee but was told there weren’t any, so I had a tea. Half way through they found some, and so one was delivered. It was quite nice. Eventually we landed in Madrid on time.

Overall Thoughts

While the missing black pudding was a little sad, overall the breakfast was lovely and the flight was very pleasant. Meals are included in AerSpace and anything is available from the menu.

Hopefully the pudding is still included in the breakfast, as it is listed in the advertisement in the Bia menu. I really think they could ditch the entire box it comes in, as it is pure waste that goes straight in the recycling.
