Flying Dublin to London and want breakfast? Don’t fly British Airways!

I want breakfast when I fly business class in the morning, I want it hot and I want it delicious. To maximise sleep time, I’ll not eat before I leave the house prior to an early morning flight, so I like to get fed on board. British Airways have decided some of us no longer deserve a Full English in Club Europe.

The news has dropped that from 7 January customers flying to Dublin, Belfast, Newcastle, Jersey, Manchester, Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels will no longer receive the hot breakfast. Instead, people will be served fruit, yoghurt and a pastry, about as far from a Full English as you can get.

Want breakfast? Fly Aer Lingus!

While breakfast is usually my least favourite meal on a flight, I’ve still managed to come across some good ones. I still find the Aer Lingus one very good, as I have done for years – even if it no longer includes pudding for some reason. The sausages and bacon are really delicious!

While it will cost you €11.00 on the Irish airline, that is substantially less than paying for Club Europe on British Airways. The value proposition just isn’t there with BA any longer. First the Champagne Piccolos were removed, then the Executive Club was gutted, and now this catering downgrade. Amazing performance for an airline making money hand over fist.

Overall Thoughts

If you’re flying between Dublin and London, don’t fly BA Club Europe if you want breakfast. Switch over and fly with Aer Lingus instead. Not only do they have a hot breakfast, but they have many more flights throughout the day.

While a European Full English on BA is no Nasi Lemak on Malaysia Airlines, it was still a nice thing to have when hungry in the morning. The change makes even having an airport breakfast before flight more appealing!

What do you think of this change by British Airways? Do you want breakfast on board when you fly? Or are you someone who eats before heading to the airport or at the airport itself? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

  1. Sigh, more cheaping out by BA. It just feel like the Walsh legacy of consistently making things worse in one way or another continues. Does no airline believe in drawing passengers by offering a better product in the west anymore?

    1. I know, it’s mad, isn’t it? BA is like a death by a thousand cuts… but they’re raking it in, so what do I know?
