Virgin Hotels, which is developing hip hotels in the U.S. in keeping with Virgin’s cheeky European brand, this morning revealed that it will pay special attention to the guest experience of disabled travelers, Travel Update has learned.
“Virgin has a long standing track record of commitment to an inclusive user experience,” says Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal said in a statement.
This is an audience that many say has been underserved for years and yet represents an increasingly active group of travelers and a growing amount of revenue for the travel industry. People with disabilities represent more than $200 billion in discretionary income.

Virgin Hotels is the first hotel company to work with New York-based Slatin Group at the corporate and property level. Former New York Times reporter Peter Slatin started the firm.
Virgin, Slatin said, “is looking past what’s been tried before to find what is really in the best interests of its customer base.”
The goal of the partnership is to make Virgin Hotels inclusive for people with vision, hearing and mobility impairments, but in a way that goes beyond the letter of the law of the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), the statement said.
