Verizon iPhone – No Dual Band For You

Therefore, no Verizon iPhone for me.  The details are finally out, and the iPhone is coming to Verizon next month.  I think this is a good thing for everyone, but I for one, will not be switching.  Sorry, but I want a phone that works  just about everywhere, and Verizon’s CDMA phones, including the iPhone, just won’t cut it.  When the Verizon iPhone graduates to 4G LTE, then maybe I’ll reconsider.

Now, if a functional phone outside the USA isn’t all that important to you, then I think you have a great option.  Verizon’s network is most definitely more robust than AT&T’s in my experience.  That said, I’ve never experienced any of the big difficulties with my iPhone connectivity on AT&T’s network that frequently gets reported in the paper.  In fact, if some AT&T customers make the move to Verizon, perhaps it will improve AT&T’s network performance?  Who knows?  All I know is that I will be sticking with AT&T for now.

Do you just roam internationally with your AT&T iPhone and does your employer pay for that? Or did you unlock the iPhone to use local SIM cards when abroad?

I have an AT&T iPhone 4 and won’t switch either, but I generally use the iPhone for data abroad (have very very cheap int’l data roaming plan) and carry a second unlocked GSM phone for voice using local SIMs.

Oliver, I just roam. I don’t call enough to justify (in my mind at least) an alternative phone/swapping sim cards, etc. My employer makes me wear a BlackBerry…. Verizon no less. So I carry 2 phones all the time. Not cool….but it is what it is. 🙂

How could Verizon be so short sighted? This is going to cause me to not by one.

Terry,

I expect it may be a matter of not being able to make everything fit into the current iPhone design. I’m not an expert, so I don’t know. Once 4G LTE is really up and running, they may be able to solve the problem. Again, just pontificating….don’t know for sure. In any event, I’m staying with AT&T.
