Move over, antiquated Combine My Avios tool, there’s a new kid on the block! Avios have just launched a new Transfer Avios tool. It’s slick, modern – and actually works!

Frequent flyers with British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Loganair, Finnair and Qatar Airways accounts can rejoice. Now you can move your Avios between each programme with ease.

Avios Transfers Made Easy!

Moving Avios from British Airways to Qatar Airways and Finnair has always been easy, as these came in relatively recently. Trying to transfer Avios from BA to Aer Lingus or Iberia has been hitherto an awful experience. It hasn’t worked for me for years and I’ve had to telephone to do it on the odd occasion when I’ve needed to.

Now when you go to the new tool on the Avios website, it all just works. I was able to transfer Avios from Aer Lingus to British Airways. After that just for fun, I decided to see if I could transfer from Aer Lingus to Iberia and that worked as well! Beforehand, you could only transfer to BA from Aer Lingus, so that’s a nice change. Judging from the image above, I could also transfer to Vueling and Loganair.

Why Transfer Avios?

Two reasons spring to mind. If you’re a member of the British Airways Club, you will be slogged for some huge surcharges on award flights. The exact same flights will probably have lower taxes booked via Aer Lingus AerClub. You can save real cash by checking both programmes each time.

Aer Lingus is not a member of the oneworld alliance, which means redemption opportunities are limited. Therefore, transferring your Avios to British Airways means you can redeem these for reward flights on all the oneworld members, which include carriers such as Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Qantas, Alaska Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, American Airlines and Qatar Airways.

Overall Thoughts

About time the ability to transfer Avios was simplified. 2025 has finally knocked on the door of the Avios IT Department – it is long overdue and very welcome.

From being a real pain in the arse, this is now unbelievably simple. I am really pleased that this all worked for me first go without any issues whatsoever.

Do you transfer Avios when you need to? Have you any other tips or reasons why you do it that might be of interest? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

    1. Well, they did say they were putting a huge amount of money into IT, so perhaps it’s now bearing fruit!

    1. Sorry to hear that, something must be different somewhere. What’s the error? It should ask you to log in to both accounts, and it’ll do the two factor thing as well (I found text message worked best), then it just worked. It did kinda wobble a bit during the IB transfer but it did go through and I got both confirmation e-mails. I don’t know what else you can check there.
