The Fly Delta App for iPhone Received a Nice Update Too

If you saw my blog on the new Fly Delta app for iPad, you could be forgiven for missing my mention that Delta also released a sharp-looking update for their iPhone app last Friday as well. In fact, I found the iPhone update before finding out that a new iPad app was in the offing. One improvement I had long hoped Delta would make to their iPhone app was the ability to view more details about my SkyMiles account like elite qualifying progress and individual transactions. With Friday’s update, I got that, and a lot more.

The fresher looking home screen includes the information it always did, this time with your SkyMiles number and balance displayed, but rotating back and forth with your Medallion status.

The home screen feels familiar, but there’s also a new “My Delta” option that offers a lot more information than has been there in the past.

The number one thing I wanted from the Delta iPhone app is now there, more detailed information on my SkyMiles account. Clicking on My SkyMiles you’ll now find your annual elite qualifying progress and details on individual mileage transactions.

There are additional options from your My Delta screen as well, such as viewing upcoming itineraries, your profile, and your wallet. Yes, you can even update your stored credit cards via the iPhone app now.

Any of the essential things you might want to add or update like address, telephone, and even your secure flight information can now be updated via your iPhone. Travel and special service preferences can even be taken care of here.

Booking flights appears to be as clean and simple as the iPad app. I’ve yet to book a Delta flight from my iPhone, but certainly would not mind doing so, especially when it’s as easy at looks on the Fly Delta app. Finally, Delta also introduced Passbook compatibility with this update. According to Delta, updates to their Android app will be forthcoming in early 2013. Overall, I am pleased with these latest technology improvements from Delta. Wonder what else is in store in 2013?

  1. oh, hey… sorry a bit off topic, but relevant to the app and functionality. Currently, the app allows for an event to be created for your calendar (gCal, iCal, Outlook, etc.) which is great. However, it only creates one event no matter the number of legs.

It would be great if Delta could create an event for each leg… especially for those who most likely use this feature, often change flights regularly, need to see the connecting flight number at a glance or need to know the amount of time between flights to make their connection.

If they’ve already created the programing to add the event to the calendar, it doesn’t seem it would be that difficult to split it out.

Just getting this request out here… already commented in app feedback. cheers

  2. Some times I find it, others it is nowhere to be found. I found it today, just wanted to add the “where” given that is not mentioned anywhere.

My Trips -> Flight Details –> scroll down after the flight leg departure & arrival times, but before your current seat assignment… Passenger (#) -> Upgrade/Standby List.

Yeah, I’m #1 for these flights tomorrow. Ironically, this past week, all 4 legs of my round trip, I did not appear on the UPG list at all, even though I was UPG eligible. I was unable find the list on the app, and the monitors didn’t show me there either. First time that has ever happened (not being on the list).

    1. I’m having hit and miss issues. I’ve noticed that when there’s a delay in my flight and the app displays that info, the upgrade list disappears. Of course, today I’m upgraded so I can’t see the list anyway.

  3. It looks like the new Delta app has gotten rid of the upgrades list. Could this be right?… Or am I not looking in the right place?

    1. David,

I’ve been getting some comments about this. I have seen the upgrade list on the app. Unfortunately, I don’t fly again until next week so that will be my first opportunity to test myself. That said, I believe the UPG list may be “coming and going” at times. I actually contacted Delta about this, and they said “Upgrade lists are still included and found under My Trips.” Try going to my trips, then selecting your trip, and see if you see the upgrade list. Report back via comments if you don’t mind, I’d love to know what you find.

  4. I’m flying today and unable to view the list. I asked at SkyClub here in SFO and was told it’s not there and they’ve had a few complaints just today about it. HATE that! That’s something you for sure need to view on the go.

    1. I was able to view it Friday. I checked with contacts at Delta who report that it should be viewable from My Trips. I did not ask if the ability to view the list had experienced tech difficulties over the weekend though.
