The Rogers Red World Elite MasterCard. * Terms & Conditions apply.

Well, only one real condition. You must be a Rogers, Fido or Shaw Customer. If you are, you can easily qualify for 3% cashback on every purchase in every category.

Let’s be honest, nobody speaks about this credit card. Not influencers. Not bloggers. Do you blame them? I suspect the affiliate links are much weaker in comparison to other credit card issuers. The only other reason why this card is not as famous as it should be is that the welcome bonuses are very limited. However, for a no annual fee card, this card is a great card to always have in your wallet.

More interestingly, I have shared this credit card with my community of friends and family. Nobody believes me. Their first reaction? You are misinterpreting the credit card. It is not as good as you think it is.

So, here is my article to write, why it is exactly as good as I claim it is.

Conclusion

I still do not understand why this card is not nearly as popular. I get it, it’s not a metal card. It is not going to help you get Business Class redemptions across the world. The only real benefit is that this card puts money back in your wallet. The reality is that does not sell in the travel community.

Let’s be honest. For most consumers, earning Aeroplan Points or WestJet points through your credit card will give far less “cash” value other than trying to meet the minimum spend requirement for a sign up bonus. Hence, I strongly believe, for most consumers, if you have a Rogers service, you must have this card in your wallet.

What is the value of an airline mile anyways?

I have written about the average value of points, for average consumers, on both WestJet and Aeroplan. However, as a Canadian, even for optimal redemptions, if you look at a round trip travel to Asia for 175,000 points. That would roughly be $175,000 on credit card spend, outside of credit card bonuses. That is also, $5,250 cashback when using against a Rogers purchase. Everyone has different purchasing habits, however, I would argue, $5,250 cashback is worth far more than one free round trip business class ticket to Asia Pacific with extremely limited award availability. The only exception are the elusive First Class awards which can be incredibly difficult to obtain as it is today.
