Wow this is certainly interesting. Minneapolis based Sun Country Airlines has announced service to Honolulu!
Service to Honolulu will begin May 19th and run through August 19th. Flights will run four days a week, Friday through Monday with non-stop flights from Los Angeles and connecting flights from Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Flights from LAX-HNL one way start at $299 in coach, or $488 in First Class. A quick search for May 25th found the $299/$488 prices below.
This announcement comes after Sun Country announced that New York Based Apollo Global Management would acquire the airline from brothers Marty and Mitch Davis. Sun Country is the largest privately-held fully independent airline in the United States. The transaction is projected to be completed during the first quarter of 2018.
Certainly an interesting route for Sun Country. Do you want to try this flight out?
Happy travels,

$299 one way seems very expensive especially considering that we’ve been seeing $325 round trips from SFO-Hawaii for the past few months. (I think the fares have been similar for LAX but not positive.)
I agree! They are operating during the summer though, and the $299 pricing seems to be available throughout the summer currently while competitors are pricing upwards of $350 one way for the peak season. It will be interesting to see how summer pricing plays out in the coming months!
