Denver’s newest luxury hotel, the Crawford, made local headlines Friday after a boiler exploded causing a small fire just three weeks after its opening. No one was hurt.
“Guests of the hotel donned bathrobes and pajamas as they gathered outside of the newly renovated hotel, located at Union Station, after fire alarms gave them an early morning wake-up call Friday,” the local NBC affiliate reported.
Fortunately, everyone was safe because the middle-of-the-night fire “was immediately controlled by the zoned sprinkler system,” 9NEWS.com’s story says, citing a Crawford Hotel statement.

The headline really caught my attention for the simple reason that I hadn’t previously heard about this interesting hotel, which is housed in one of Denver’s most iconic buildings – the newly restored Union Station. Someday I’d like to check it out, but if you get there before I do, please email me a few photos to share in this forum!
A quick check on the Crawford’s website reveals that the 112-room independent hotel opened last month within Union Station as part of a broader station refurbishment. That means guests get to sleep amid magnificent local history and architecture. If you can’t stay, the offers tours twice a month for $15 per person to raise money for non-profit partners.
NPR last week just did a radio report about the renaissance of the once-dilapidated rail station. A local interior designer also toured the station with other interior designers and posted a nice mix of photos on her website, Designs by Katy.
The rooms aren’t cheap. The least expensive room tonight (Saturday) will cost you $439, excluding taxes, according to the hotel’s website.
For the money, guests receive a mix of history, well-designed rooms plus modern amenities including luxurious rain showers.
