Review: SAS Economy Airbus A320neo London to Copenhagen

Background & Booking

I needed to get to Copenhagen from London, and cash fares were over $200 one way during my August dates. I then checked the FlyingBlue program, and they had a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight from London to Copenhagen for just 15,000 + $134 for 3 passengers.

I had previously flown on the same plane type, the Airbus A320neo, on board SAS last year from Oslo to Stockholm, so I kind of knew what to expect.

Flight Details

Scandinavian Airlines Flight 1516
London (LHR) to Copenhagen (CPH)
Aircraft: Airbus A320neo
Seat: 8A Window
Cabins: SAS Go
Scheduled Duration: 1 hour and 55 minutes

Check-In

Before check-in, seats were going for 24 EUR at the front of the plane and 22 EUR towards the back.

Our award ticket was more aligned to the SAS Go Plus fare, which is the second option after the lowest fare, SAS Go. The SAS Go Plus comes with a carry-on plus a checked luggage.

Oddly, on the app, it kept saying we had a checked bag included and an underseat bag, but no carry-on. Weird! Must have been an IT issue, as we had no issues at the airport. Some online forums also state that it seems like it’s just a glitch.

SAS’s check-in opens up 30 hours before your flight. At check-in, it showed that I was assigned seats together towards the middle of the aircraft. I wanted to be closer to the front and was able to switch to row 8 for free, which was nice.

Interestingly, on my SAS flight a few days later from Copenhagen to Dublin, I did have to join their EuroBonus program to move seats for free, perhaps because I paid a cash fare instead for this ticket.

At the Airport

Since I had about an 8-hour layover from my Virgin Atlantic flight, I decided to catch some sleep and got a small airport hotel room for 6 hours, which was nice. I stayed at the Aerotel, located in Terminal 3 (where my Virgin Atlantic flight arrived), and it was just a 10- to 15-minute walk to Terminal 2, where this SAS flight departed from.

Once at Terminal 2, we visited the Plaza Premium Lounge via Priority Pass as it had better reviews than the No. 1 Lounge. I had visited this particular lounge back in 2019. It was sufficient for a quick rest and had some hot items to nibble on.

The Flight

From the Plaza Premium Lounge to our B gate departure, it was a 15-minute walk.

Boarding was scheduled for 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time, and we arrived right on time. We were in Group 4, but it seems they started early, and they just let everyone board at once. Everyone just kind of trickled in, as I guess many people were running late since there is so much walking from the main terminal to the B gates.

Once onboard, the pilots let us know that we would have a nice tailwind and it would be 1 hour and 25 minutes in the air.

The plane was too warm for boarding, and all the passengers were fanning themselves. Not until we closed the boarding door and the engines turned on then the AC kick in.  Perhaps I should have boarded towards the end!

We left the gate five minutes before our scheduled departure and took off about 15 minutes after.

Our plane was a little over 3.5 years old, and the legroom was a bit on the tighter side, but not too bad for a short hop. aeroLOPA reports that the seat width is 17.7″, and the seat pitch is 30.0″.

Items were available for purchase, and coffee, water, and tea are free onboard. For such a short flight, I was surprised they even came by with tea refills!

No Wi-Fi was available on this flight, but there was USB-A charging.

We landed about 20 minutes before our scheduled arrival, and got to the gate 5 minutes early.

The Verdict

Overall, I had a fine experience on the SAS Economy Airbus A320neo product. The flight was on time, and they had some complimentary beverage options, though it would be nice to have Wi-Fi.
