Review: Runway Views at Novotel Auckland Airport

a glass covered entrance to a hotel

The Novotel Auckland Airport is one of those hotels that I class as the surprising airport hotel. Usually people expect an airport hotel to be pretty basic but in some cases the rooms are nicer than those in the city.

My reason for choosing this hotel was it is the one right at the airport terminal. When I arrive somewhere for an overnight stay, I don’t want to have to get transport. I want my bed and I want it immediately.

Prior to my stay I received an e-mail encouraging me to check-in online which I did. Once through immigration I was happy to find the hotel is literally across the road from the door to arrivals. This meant check-in at the desk was a breeze.

A Room At The Novotel

Rooms are spacious and quite nicely fit out with all the modern conveniences one would expect. Star of the space is the large bed with its headboard featuring a tropical forest scene.

Immediately opposite the bed is a desk with charging points, a television and a luggage rack. Black surfaces and blonde wood accents keep everything looking nice and clean. There is an electric kettle and a minibar with a really nice selection of items. A noodle pot was the most interesting item to me, and there are also the usual crisps, nuts, wine, beer, chocolates and soft drinks. My main requirement was sleep and Internet and I found the room quiet and the Wi-Fi speedy.

Bathroom With A Rain Shower

I love a rain shower and rooms at the Novotel Auckland Airport have spacious shower areas with two shower options. You can use the hand held or the rain shower.

Sustainable products seem to be the name of the game at Novotel and I was happy to see that. The bathrooms also feature a square basin with a selection of different towels and tissues. The mirror lights up too! The controls for the bathroom lighting are inexplicably located in the corridor and I didn’t notice them and figured the light was broken as the switch inside the bathroom does nothing. I blame fatigue… or possibly the Champagne on the flight.

Do You Like A Runway View?

When booking, I wrote that I would like a runway view if possible in my special requests box. A couple of weeks prior to my visit I received an e-mail from Novotel with upgrade offers. One of them was a runway view but I decided not to pay and just see if I got one anyway.

Happily I did get one which I found out the next morning when I woke up. It is quite a nice view so it’s well worth it. I guess the other way looks towards the city of Auckland but I don’t really know.

Overall Thoughts

Novotel Auckland Airport is a very fine airport hotel. Sound proofing is excellent and rooms are quiet and cool. Virtually everything you need is available in the room.

Check-in and check-out were quite quick and I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. With an easy overnight stay, I would stay here again when passing through Auckland.
