Review: Long Trail House Stratton Mountain, Vermont

Background and Location

I wanted to do a ski weekend with some friends that was within driving distance from New York City, and one that gave cute winter holiday village vibes. After doing some research, it seemed like Stratton, Vermont, was a great option as it still had a cute village. We wanted to stay close to the village of shops and restaurants and decided upon the Long Trail House, which is just a few steps from the main village and the slopes.

Stratton is about 220 miles away from New York City, or a 4-hour drive.

Takeoff Points for Long Trail House

Pros: Conveniently located near Stratton Village, with large residential-style rooms perfect for groups with newly renovated bathrooms.
Cons: Some aspects of the room can be better maintained, such as the power plugs in one of the bedrooms, as well as some dated furniture.
Takeoff Point: Overall, the Long Trail House was a solid spot for a quick weekend ski trip to Stratton.

Arrival

We got to the hotel pretty late, and evening check-ins occur at the Black Bear Lodge, about a 5-minute walk or short drive over from the Long Trail House. There is a 24-hour front desk at the Black Bear Lodge.

Long Trail House has a north and a south tower, and we were located in the north tower. Both are connected underground through the underground heated parking structure.

The Room: Long Trail House 3 Bedroom

Our room was the Long Trail House Three Bedroom. Configurations vary, and you can’t guarantee a specific configuration, so just keep that in mind, but you should definitely submit a preference when booking if you would like a certain configuration.

Our room had a king in the primary bedroom, a king in the second bedroom, and a queen in the third bedroom. Or, I’ve seen options that would have a king in the primary bedroom, twin bunk beds in the second bedroom, and full-sized bunk beds in the third bedroom. The latter configuration would be preferred for families with kids or friends traveling together.

For a three-star hotel, I found the room quite nice! The bedrooms were a bit basic, but the bathrooms were recently renovated, and the kitchen and living room areas looked cozy.

Third Bedroom (Queen, no windows outside)

My only issue is that the beds were ridiculously firm, but maybe that is good for skiers? And the bedding was on the thin side, so you definitely want to keep the heater on! And the third bedroom did not have working power outlets.

Our room had 2 bathrooms that were quite similar. One was an en-suite to the primary bedroom, and the other was shared with the rest of the residence. The bathrooms had conditioner, shampoo, and body wash. It was just a bit weird that the bathroom did not have hand soap, so I had to keep moving the body wash to the sink.

The kitchen was stocked with everything you’d need to make a meal.

The fireplaces were nice, and we had two outdoor balconies to get some fresh air.

Amenities

Also, there is a sauna, a heated outdoor pool, and a hot tub. The hot tub was nice after a long day on the slopes.

The Verdict

Overall, the Long Trail House at Stratton Mountain was a solid residence to share with friends, and I appreciated the proximity to the village. The room felt more modern than I was expecting, and the outdoor pool & hot tub were a nice touch.
