Background
I was flying Singapore Airlines Business Class from New York (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA). The lounges that business class passengers get access to are the Air India Maharaja Lounge and the HelloSky Lounge, which are both accessible by Priority Pass. I decided to give the Air India Maharaja Lounge a try while I was waiting to access the AMEX Centurion Lounge and/or Chase Sapphire Lounge.
Access and Location
The Air India Maharaja Lounge New York (JFK) is located in Terminal 4 near the A gates, across from the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse. The lounge is open from 10:30 am to 9:45 pm daily.
For Priority Pass, access is permitted 3 hours before the scheduled flight departure. When I visited on a Wednesday afternoon, Priority Pass users were being quoted a 25-30 minute wait time, but since I had access through my Singapore Airlines business class ticket, I was immediately let in.
My Visit
The lounge is quite small and is shaped like a square room with dining tables scattered around. To the left of the reception desk are the lounge restrooms and the buffet area.

For a tiny lounge, there was a wide variety of items (not that it was the most appetizing). Hot items included butter chicken, vegetable curry, chickpea stew, and rice. There was also whole fruit, chips, pastries, and some vegetables.

Canned sodas were available as well as juice & wine. My favorite part was that they had tiny water bottles, which come in handy on travel days and to bring on the plane.
The attendant who came around was friendly, and they also had one of those robots to assist with cleaning. Though the decor was very outdated, and some of the furniture could use some TLC. Overall, it was just not a great vibe. It’s a disappointing lounge option for Singapore Airlines Business Class passengers.
The Verdict
Overall, the Air India Maharaja Lounge New York is quite basic and uninspiring. The food selection was not too bad, but the space was just very drab.
