You know, the more I find out about Aegean Airlines, the more impressed I become. First I find out you can redeem your miles on Emirates, which was great. My discovery today is the fact that you can pre-order meals in business class before you fly.
Very few airlines have a pre-order scheme. The most famous is perhaps Singapore Airlines, who have a “Book The Cook” service out of their home base for their premium customers. Seeing it on an airline that primarily operates within Europe is a total surprise.
Pre-Order Meals
I am flying Aegean quite soon on a couple of little mileage runs to get me over the line for Gold status. The very first flight is in business class and when I checked online, I could choose meals.
Left to right these are, “Chicken ragout with chilopites pasta and halloumi cheese”, “Beef fillet with sweet potato purée, roasted zucchini, and chicken broth” and “Seabass fillet with potato puree with garlic and beetroot.” Nice!
What is also quite nice and also rare is the final option, “I do not wish any meal service.” Some people literally do not want to eat on board and this selection is a great way to reduce food waste.
Overall Thoughts
I eat every single thing presented to me on a flight. On more than one occasion I’ve asked for seconds, or I have asked for an additional dish entirely. There’s a reason I run several times a week – I have to combat my eating choices!
Having the option to pre-order is quite a deluxe service really. Being given complete control over the choices, even to the point of electing not to have a meal at all, is a really customer centric thing.
What do you think of Aegean’s pre-order meals? Do you pre-order when flying with them or other airlines or do you prefer to choose on board? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
