It’s funny what sticks in a person’s mind when it comes to experiences we’ve had. I was reading a recent thread on a forum where someone asked what were the airline branded service marks that people remembered from defunct airlines. In amongst replies about things like Eastern’s Ionesphere Club, one person replied with two words – “Piedmont Punch”.
Naturally curious, I had to find out what this was all about. Obviously it was going to be a drink of some kind, so I was immediately interested as regular readers will know I am a big fan of trying airline signature drinks on flights. Ever since my first Cathay Delight on Cathay Pacific, I’ve not looked back.
Piedmont Punch
Piedmont Airlines was once a large domestic airline operating in the United States. In the 1981, they introduced a fruit juice drink called Piedmont Punch, to help differentiate them from others.
Overall Thoughts
It’s a shame the Piedmont Punch didn’t continue when the airline was taken over by US Airways. Alas, everything Piedmont was wiped out in that merger and US Airways Punch doesn’t have the same ring to it. Consigned to the past, we will never get to taste it again.
As I mentioned, signature drinks are still served on various airlines. In addition to the Cathay Delight, Finnair have their Northern Blush cocktail, Malaysia Airlines have their special hibiscus welcome drink, and I am sure there are plenty more.
Do you remember the Piedmont Punch and if you had it, what was it like? What are your most memorable signature airline drinks? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

Sadly, I never tasted the Piedmont Punch. However, I have very fond memories from the 1980s of the pre-merger Piedmont Airlines. I loved the way they treated their passengers and was sad when they were absorbed.
I’ve heard good things about Piedmont. I agree, it’s a shame they went into US Airways… and are now basically American.
PSA also had a punch they would serve as their sift drink choice (circa 70s). Then they moved to Tang which was not much of improvement
Oh, I wonder what that was… I’ll have to check that out! Thanks for the heads up.
Formerly PI flight attendant here. People really liked especially when they added rum!
I think the linked article mentioned adults loved it as a mixer 🙂 Glad to hear from someone who was there, so thanks for that! What was it like working for PI?
