The Chase Sapphire Reserve refreshed a couple of weeks back and was met with both excitement and disappointment. Those who found the card benefits and credits exciting signed up for the card. On the other hand, some found the coupon-ish credits irritating and weren’t particularly impressed by the welcome bonus.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Bonuses Getting Denied Incorrectly?

As per reports on Reddit, some customers are reporting that they received a letter from Chase saying that they denied their application incorrectly. This seems to be particularly for customers who already have another Sapphire product – the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

When we ran your Chase application on June 2025, we may have incorrectly declined your application. Please rest assured that this will not impact your credit bureau report.

If you wish to apply again, please visit us at chase.com/sapphire. Because it will be considered a new application, it will require a credit bureau inquiry.

Please note that an amendment has been made to our records. Previously received or amendment bonuses for this card, as well as other factors in determining your bonus eligibility.

We may also consider the number of cards you opened and closed, as well as other factors in determining the welcome bonus available to you if you currently have any other Sapphire cards open.

Sincerely, Customer Service

The Pundit’s Mantra

If you look at the discussion thread, you’ll see that applicants are being asked to submit a fresh application. When the Chase Sapphire Reserve was refreshed, it was widely reported that Chase would relax their One Sapphire Rule for the refreshed card and allow applicants to apply for the Sapphire Reserve even if they currently have the Sapphire Preferred.

However, it seems like Chase’s own systems might not be updated and could therefore be triggering application denials for customers.

Did you apply for the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card? If yes, what was your experience like? Tell us in the comments section.
