It is always good to see an airline alliance expanding, and the news that Oman Air has joined oneworld is welcome. The airline becomes the 15th member and will begin offering benefits from 1 July 2025.
Based in Muscat, they become the third airline in the Middle East region to enter the alliance, joining global juggernaut Qatar Airways and the very pleasant Royal Jordanian. Here’s a little look at the new entry.
Oman Air
Oman Air has a a fleet of 31 aircraft, with long-haul services operated by the Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9. For shorter services, it’s Boeing 737s, with the MAX-8 being the choice. Some older 737-800s and 900s are due for retirement in 2026 when the remaining MAXs arrive from Seattle.
Business class is offered on all flights, and is described as “spectacularly good” by One Mile At A Time. That’s high praise indeed from someone who has flown on most airlines throughout the world. You can see how they look on the AeroLOPA seat maps here.
For those wondering, the IATA code is WY and there are extensive codeshare agreements in place. For example, you could fly from Dublin to Bangkok, connecting over Frankfurt with Lufthansa, then continuing on through Muscat. Sounds fun to me!
Overall Thoughts
It is always good to see a new airline in oneworld, particularly one so highly regarded from a service standpoint. The alliance has always pitched itself as the premium one and having Oman Air on board continues this trend.
