If there’s one card that I’ve carried for close to a decade now, then it’s the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. It has a simple $95 annual fee and has a fantastic value proposition for the price you pay. At the moment, Chase is offering a unique welcome bonus on the card. However, you’ll need to first check if you’re eligible for the offer. You can earn 60,000 bonus points and another $300 for a card that charges $95 in annual fees. This offer is ending soon on November 11, 2024.

Qualification Criteria

We can break this down into two primary categories: a) Card specific rule and b) Chase (bank) specific rules.

One Sapphire Rule

As per the terms and conditions, Chase will not approve you for this welcome bonus if you currently have the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card active.

The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.

48 month rule

You cannot get the card if you’ve received a welcome bonus on either the Sapphire Reserve or Preferred in the last 48 months. Bear in mind that the date that matters here is the date you received the bonus on and not the date when Chase approved you for the card. You will also not be eligible for the bonus if you do a product change.

In addition, you need to be aware rules that are specific to Chase’s credit cards.

2/30 RULE

According to this rule, Chase will not approve you for one of their cards if you’ve successfully applied for two or more Chase cards in the last 30 days.

CHASE 5/24 RULE

Chase will not approve you for their credit cards if you’ve been approved for 5 or more cards from any issuer in the last 24 months.

ANALYSIS

If your answer to any of the questions below is YES, then you won’t qualify for this offer on the Sapphire Preferred:

  • My last welcome bonus for the Sapphire Preferred or the Reserve posted after October 2020
  • I have already been approved for 2 Chase cards in the last 30 days
  • I currently hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve
  • I’ve been approved for 5 or more credit cards (from any issuer) in the last 24 months

The Pundit’s Mantra

In my case, I’ve carried the Chase Sapphire Preferred card in my wallet for more than half a decade. As I wrote in this blog post, the card just makes complete sense for me year after year. With this welcome bonus, you can earn upwards of $1,050 in value by simply booking via Chase Travel, for a card that charges an annual fee of just 95.
