Background
The Rosewood Amsterdam opened in May of 2025, which was timed perfectly for my Amsterdam trip in August. On the tail end of my Europe trip, I spent 3 nights in Amsterdam, and had to try the newly opened Rosewood Amsterdam for my first night. This was the first Rosewood property I’ve stayed at, and I was super excited to try out this luxury brand. As of 2025, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts manages a global collection of over 34 luxury properties in 21 countries.
The Rosewood Amsterdam is housed in the beautifully restored former Palace of Justice on Prinsengracht, and involved restoring a 17th-century building, now featuring 134 rooms and suites. The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is one of my all-time favorite properties, so I was excited to compare the two.

Takeoff Points
Date of Stay: August 2025
Pros: Amazing bedding and beautiful rooms.
Cons: Service was clunky, which might be attributed to the property being new and not gaining its footing quite yet.
Arrival and Location
The Rosewood Amsterdam is set right along one of Amsterdam’s historic canals in the heart of the city’s UNESCO-listed Canal District. It’s within easy walking distance of top sights, making it an ideal base for exploring Amsterdam’s culture and charm.
As with many Amsterdam hotels, arrivals can be a bit tricky due to the narrow streets & lack of a traditional porte cochère (unlike the Sofitel Legend The Grand). Our car had to pull over across from the hotel, and we needed to navigate a short staircase to reach the lobby, which made the initial arrival feel slightly clunky with luggage. Once we reached the steps, the entrance staff were helpful, but the overall process was a bit messy.
We were quickly guided to the reception, where we were offered a welcome drink, and sat down as we completed the check-in process. Once complete, we were escorted to our rooms and shown the features. The design of the hotel is quite interesting, and while the common areas are a beautiful mix of modern and classic luxury, some of the art installations are more abstract than I would have expected. During my one-night stay, I did experience a few service hiccups, most notably when I asked the concierge for help arranging a canal cruise. I was told someone would follow up, but I never heard back, even after calling again from my room.

Might I add that the guest hallways are beautiful in the morning but a bit spooky at night? 🙂

Premier Canal View Room
Both of our rooms were located on the 2nd floor, across the hall from one another. Premier Rooms are stated to be between 377-452 ft² (35-41 m²). As you entered the room, there was a small powder room with a sink and W/C. Then, you’ll enter the hallway with a closet, and then the bathroom with a shower and a nice soaking tub is in its own separate spot. It makes it efficient when sharing with another person to have it separate. Toiletries were provided by Votary, and there were many bathroom amenities, such as cotton swabs, provided.

The view was quite picturesque, and it literally felt like I was on the canal. Definitely a vibe. Loved the sofa near the canal as well, but part of me wishes it looked out to the canal. The room had stellar high ceilings, and I overall loved the design and found the room to be beautiful.

In front of the sofa, there was a Nespresso Machine & mini-bar items for purchase.
The bedding was amazing- definitely one of the best hotel beds I have slept in. Rosewood is entering Four Seasons territory for me.
The only quirk I had with the room was that the hallway and the opening of the closet were a bit too narrow, in the Premier Twin as well.

Premier Two Twin Room
The Premier Two Twin was definitely larger than the Canal View I was in. It overlooked the nice courtyard and featured many similar features. Though the bathroom was nicer and featured double sinks (on top of the separate sink in the separate W/C).

Overall, a lovely room as well!
Dining
Eeuwen is the all-day restaurant, where I had breakfast. It’s a nice space, with a beautiful bar in the front, as well as outdoor seating in the herb garden.

If breakfast is included in your stay, you could order anything you would like from the à la carte menu.

One note during my stay is that I found it a bit odd that they seated all guests right next to one another, despite there only being 5 groups when I arrived. Spreading out slightly would be a more comfortable experience. The food was satisfactory, but the service was a bit clunky.

Other dining options include The Court, which is located in the lobby with views of the courtyard. It’s a relaxed, all-day spot serving coffee and pastries in the morning, then transitioning to drinks with more substantial bites in the evening.

And, Advocatuur is a swanky cocktail lounge, offering Indian inspired bar bites.

Spa and Fitness
As a hotel guest, you could visit the spa pool and sauna/steam room without needing a spa treatment, which was nice. The Asaya Spa offers a full slate of treatments.
I visited the spa just to take a morning swim, and it was a very nice facility. The indoor pool had a hot tub, and the steam room & sauna were located just across the pool. A very friendly attendant made sure to keep the space in tip-top shape, and there were refreshments offered.

The fitness center was a good size and had all the equipment needed for a workout.

The Verdict
Overall, the Rosewood Amsterdam is a beautiful property with amazing bedding. Service could be improved upon, but it could have definitely been attributed to the fact that it was only open for 3 months during my stay. I’m excited to try another Rosewood in the future!
