Hilton has just announced the debut of Motto by Hilton in Australia, with the signing of Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre. This marks Hilton’s seventh brand in Australia and continues what has been a pretty aggressive push by Hilton to grow its lifestyle portfolio across the Asia Pacific region. Here’s what we know so far.

New Hilton Property: Motto By Hilton

Motto is Hilton’s urban lifestyle brand built around a very specific traveller in mind. Think compact, cleverly designed rooms, buzzing communal spaces and a property that feels plugged into the neighborhood. It is the kind of brand that appeals to travelers who want to spend as little time as possible in their room and as much time as possible out in the city.

The brand currently has 10 properties worldwide, with recent openings in Hong Kong SoHo, Downtown Nashville and New York City Times Square. The Sydney property will be part of a pipeline of 23 additional Motto properties currently in planning and development globally.

Location

The property is being developed on York Street in Sydney’s CBD, in what was formerly the Bank of China headquarters. The location is genuinely convenient, placing guests within walking distance of The Rocks, Darling Harbor, the Sydney Opera House, the Harbor Bridge, Barangaroo and the YCK Laneways precinct. It also sits conveniently between Wynyard and Town Hall stations.

The hotel is being developed in partnership with Invictus Developments and is set to open in late 2027, featuring 152 rooms in total, broken down as follows:

96 standard rooms
14 bunk rooms
14 flex rooms
8 accessible rooms
20 suites

56 of those rooms are also able to interconnect, which makes this an interesting option for families and small groups who want the lifestyle hotel experience without feeling squeezed into separate bookings.

Food & Beverage

The property will feature a rooftop bar, communal seating, locally driven programming and what Hilton describes as inventive mixology. The lobby itself is designed to double as a co-working space and a spot to meet for coffee or cocktails.

What Does This Mean For Hilton Honors Members?

Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre will participate fully in Hilton Honors, which means points redemptions, the flexible Points and Money slider, member discounts and free standard Wi-Fi will all apply here once the property opens. Given that Sydney is already a strong Hilton Honors redemption market, adding a well-located lifestyle option to the mix at what is likely to be a compelling points rate is genuinely good news for members.

Morevoer, Hilton has LXR Hotels & Resorts also arriving in Australia in 2027, so the luxury end of the portfolio is getting a boost at the same time.
