How low can you go for a hotel room?

Avatar

When I was reading the Guardian’s fun piece about cave hotels, I had to look up how far below the surface the Sala Silvermine hotel room in Sweden is at 155 meters deep. Turns out, it’s 508 feet below ground. The piece describes it as the “world’s deepest hotel room.”

Definitely not a room that everyone’s going to want to stay in, but definitely worth at least checking out the dramatic photo shown the Guardian’s site and, better yet, the photo gallery on the mine attraction’s site.

The piece highlights five other off-the-beaten-path cave hotels in Italy, Australia, Turkey, Tunisia and Spain with prices that range from modest to luxury level.

If you go, go for the bragging rights and what I’d guess is extreme quiet. After all, you won’t get a view!
