Background
On my return flight from Madrid to New York, I visited the Iberia Premium Lounge Velázquez before my flight at Madrid–Barajas Airport. I had a few hours to spend in the lounge, and it was pretty solid.
Location & Access
After taking the tram to the satellite terminal (4S), you’ll enter a duty-free shop, and then the entrance to the business class Premium Lounge Velázquez is right in the middle of it, which is interesting. The satellite terminal services all other international flights, including all long-haul Iberia flights (Boarding Gates S).
The Iberia Velázquez Premium Lounge is open daily from 6 am to 1 am.
You can access this lounge if you are an:
- Iberia Plus elite (Infinita Prime, Infinita, Platino, and Oro)
- Business class & Business Plus passengers operated by the Iberia Group or oneworld partners
- oneworld Emerald & Sapphire members
The Lounge
With a floor space of 2,500 square metres (about 27,000 square feet), the Iberia Velázquez Premium Lounge is quite spacious, accommodating up to 500 passengers. When we arrived to the lounge around 2 pm, it was quite full, and then it was pretty empty when we left the lounge right before 4 pm. I believe a lot of flights leave around 3-4 pm, so it starts to empty out.
It’s a very long & narrow lounge, with the reception desk in the center. Going either left or right has duplicated buffet food areas, but each side offers a bit of a difference in other amenities.

Towards the right side, you’ll pass seating options and then a fun bar in the back, where you can do some plane spotting. The bar in the back had a special menu for the weekend to celebrate Mexico, where they had homemade corn chips & guac and two special cocktails.

On the left side, there are the restrooms, and then way in the back is a nice restaurant-looking dining room, but it was empty and unstaffed. I’m not sure if it’s just used as seating now or if it’s only open at certain hours. The website didn’t help much on information about that restaurant either, but it does hint at an “a la carte menu”.

Food
Each side of the lounge has a buffet section (identical), beverage sections & candy/sweets cart.
The buffet had a vast selection of hot dishes, cold cuts, and salads. I found the choices to be quite good, and the salmon dish was quite tasty.

Other Amenities
On the right side, there is a kids’ area with video games.

There are also sleep/resting rooms next to the shower facilities on the right side of the lounge. I didn’t utilize or check out the showers this time, but I believe you have to check in with reception.

The Verdict
Overall, the Iberia Premium Lounge Velázquez is a solid lounge to stop by before a long-haul business class flight. The food selection was decent and tasty, and the lounge was pretty spacious.

I felt it was a good lounge, but in some ways I preferred the Schengen lounge.
Ooo, hopefully I try that one day! Thanks for reading.
Lounge is pretty good. But there are usually kids running rampant literally running in the lounge and not just in the kids area. Lounge lizard ladies dont really care too much
During my visit, there weren’t many kids running around the lounge, perhaps I got lucky! Thanks for reading.
