Is the 100,000 points Chase Ink welcome bonus worth it?

In previous posts, I’ve written how Chase Ultimate Rewards remains one of my favorite points currencies. While I prefer Amex’s airline partners, Chase takes the cake with their hotel partners, especially World of Hyatt. Currently, the Chase Ink Preferred card is offering a 100,000 points welcome bonus that’s publicly available.

Chase Ink Preferred

The Chase Ink Preferred Card is one of my favorite small business cards. It offer a simple 3x points per each dollar you spend on travel. Also, you earn 3x points per dollar spent on telecommunication and office supply store purchases. Also, if you pay your monthly bill, you automatically qualify for cell phone insurance. You can read my full review of the Chase Ink Preferred here.

5/24 Rule

Like almost all other cards, Chase’s 5/24 rule applies to this card. Chase will not approve you for this card and almost all others if you’ve been approved for 5 or more credit cards in the last 24 months.

Two Offers

The 100k offer is the current standard offer. However, the previous 80k offer is still available via refer-a-friend links. So how do the two offers on this card compare to each other? Let’s have a look.

Welcome Bonus Minimum Spend Requirement Spend Period
100,000 Ultimate Rewards Points $15,000 3 months
80,000 Ultimate Rewards Points $5,000 3 months

Decision Making

Your decision simply depends on two factors. Firstly, how much can you spend in 3 months? Secondly, are you looking to get just one offer or more?

If you’re someone who does multiple applications and can instead sign up for 3 cards with minimum spends of $5,000 each, you could end up earning a lot more points in welcome bonuses. However, if you can easily meet the $15,000 spend and only want one card for now, then go for the 100k offer by all means.

Other Options

If you’re under 5/24 and eligible, you could even opt for one of the personal Chase cards like the Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Preferred. If you’re looking to save on annual fees, you can opt for the personal and business versions of the Chase Freedom cards.

Let’s say you go for the 80k offer and intend to sign up for more cards in a single application round. In that case, go for the Chase Ink first. If you’re close to hitting the 5/24 mark, it’s always better to get the Chase card first, followed by other cards.

The Pundit’s Mantra

The Chase Ink Business Preferred Card has a solid value proposition. It offers a lucrative welcome bonus, followed by generous spend categories and useful benefits like cell phone insurance.

Which offer do you intend to get, the 100k or the 80k offer? Let us know in the comments section.
