Background & Location
As part of my Spain Trip last month, I ended my trip with a one-night stay at the Madrid EDITION. This was the second EDITION property I’ve stayed at, the first being the London EDITION last year. The EDITION Hotels are the result of the collaboration between Marriott International and hotelier Ian Schrager. The vibe is upscale, yet ultra-modern & minimalistic. Before staying at the Madrid EDITION, I had a two-night stay at the Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection property. I had an enjoyable stay there as well, and you can check out that review here if you’d like.
The Madrid EDITION is centrally located for tourists, just a few blocks away from Plaza Mayor, The Royal Theater & the Royal Palace.
As of this posting, cash rates for the Madrid EDITION start at around 350 EUR per night in the low season and as low as 70,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points.
Travel Agency Benefits
I work with a travel agency, Fora Travel, and can assist in booking hotel stays. Fora is part of Marriott STARS & Virtuoso. These partnerships give you special perks when booking with me. The Madrid EDITION comes with the following:
- Daily breakfast for two
- Complimentary upgrade upon availability
- $100 Hotel Credit per stay
- Welcome amenity
- Early check-in/late check-out upon availability
If you are interested in getting these perks and want to stay at the Madrid EDITION, feel free to email me at takeofftotravel@fora.travel and I would be happy to help you plan your trip.
Takeoff Points
Date of Stay: March 2025
Room Type: Loft, Guest room, 1 King, Plaza View
Pros: Beautiful lobby bar and nice modern rooms in a central Madrid location.
Cons: No door in the bathroom.
Check-In
Our Uber dropped us off at the front entrance, and the valet quickly helped us with our bags and said they would bring them to our room as we would need to go up one floor to access the reception and lobby.
As you enter from the valet area, there is an impressive white circular staircase, that takes you to the lobby level.

As you make your way up the staircase, you’ll pass the beautiful lobby bar, and then the reception is a small area tucked into the corner next to the guest room elevators.

Check-in was quick, but the only thing that kind of rubbed me the wrong way were the ads on the iPad to upgrade your room & also the front desk asking if you’d like to donate 1 EUR to a charity. For a luxury hotel, it just didn’t seem very classy for the rates commanded at the property.
As a Marriott Platinum member, the welcome gift was 1,000 Bonvoy points, as EDITION properties don’t provide breakfast as a choice. We were upgraded from the Superior lead-in room category to a Loft Room with extra space (312 sqft vs 431 sqft).
Loft Guest Room
Our loft room was on the 1st floor (so one floor above the lobby, which is 0). The hallways were minimalistic and modern.

When entering the room, to the right is a closet that has hangers, two robes for you during your stay as well as a dresser with four empty drawers. In addition, it does have a complementary shoe shine service, plus the room offered a shoe brush.

Bathroom
Then, to the left is the bathroom. There is no door to the bathroom, which could make it awkward if sharing with a friend or colleague, so the room is set up more for couples. In the center is a single sink with ample counter space. Beneath the sink was an amenity box with a dental kit, shower cap, shoe mitt, sewing kit, vanity kit, shaving kit, and a loofah pad.

There is a water closet with a frosted glass door. There is a large standup shower that has a waterfall feature, as well as a wand.

Toiletries are provided by Le Labo in the special EDITION scent, which is a white tea scent that I really enjoy.
The only negative I had from the bathroom was that the towels were a bit rough and that I would prefer a door to the bathroom. However, I have to say that the bathroom had a very nice beige tile and I did like the sleek aesthetic.
The Room
In between the bathroom and bedroom, there is a wet bar area with an espresso machine, tea kettle, alcohol for purchase as well as complementary boxed waters. Teabags were provided by Baque Cafe, and they have Nespresso-type pods as well. But the machine itself was Nespresso branded, which was interesting.

Above this counter was a refrigerator with a fully stocked mini bar, and beneath the counter were drawers that provided snacks for purchase and a safe.
Bedding
Now, as we enter the room, there is a large bench to the left that could serve as a sitting area or, more functionally, a luggage rack. The room was quite spacious and had a lot of empty space. In the center of the room was a king-size bed with two nightstands on each side. The bedding was very comfortable, to the 5 star level. We wanted a room with 2 Queen Beds, but they sold out, but were very willing to send us a rollaway bed. The rollaway bed was quite comfortable for a rollaway!

The modern design was quite aesthetically pleasing to me, and I did like the bright white walls. I preferred these bright white walls to the darker woods (ski lodge vibe) that the London EDITION featured.
On both nightstands, there was a light switch that could control the nightlight brighter, darker, and on and off as well as a side lamp on the other side, offering the same light controls. One nightstand had the phone, and the other had a Beosound A1 speaker that can connect to Bluetooth.

Towards the back of the room was a nice L-shaped sized couch as well as an armchair with a table.
Our room had a nice view of the plaza behind.

Dining & Bars
Lobby Bar
The lobby bar is a dynamic and social space, and it was generally quite lively at most times of the day.

The Punch Room
The first Punch Room made its debut with the opening of The London EDITION. In a hidden corner just off the lobby, the Punch Room is a signature bar that can be found at many EDITION properties around the world. It’s good for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap.
Oroya & The Roof
Oroya is a restaurant by Peruvian Chef Diego Muñoz, open for dinner nightly. It’s set in a relaxed greenhouse-like setting, with a relaxed tapas menu on the roof of the hotel.

The Roof features Madrid’s biggest rooftop pool and Pool Bar. The Pool Bar wasn’t open during our stay, as the pool is seasonal and opens in April.
The Market
The Market at EDITION specializes in Spanish cuisine, focusing on fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced directly from the local markets of Madrid. It’s open for breakfast and lunch daily.
In-Room Dining
There is 24-hour room service, which is nice.
Amenities
Nightclub: MISTICA at EDITION
It’s an underground, sophisticated nightclub that operates Thursday to Saturday. We almost went during our stay, but we were too tired to go to a club since it was the last night of our trip. I inquired at the front desk if there are preferred reservations or guest lists for hotel guests, but they said no and that we could purchase tickets on their website.
Fitness Center
On the basement level, there is a 24-hour fitness center. It was a solid sized gym, and I was able to get a workout in during my stay. I liked how the equipment felt new and in good condition.

Spa
Next to the fitness center is the Spa which features five treatment rooms, one with a private steam suite, alongside a menu of treatments. The spa uses products from the Spanish brand Natura Bissé.

Pool
The infinity pool looked amazing, with views of the city, and it is open seasonally. Sadly, during our stay in March, it wasn’t open yet, but the opening date is currently set for April 3rd.

The Verdict
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Madrid EDITION. The modern rooms felt snazzy, and the location is very convenient to all the tourist sites. If you like modern with a beautiful lobby bar, the Madrid EDITION might be the hotel for you!
