Spend €280 for a night in the Sofitel Athens Airport, or spend €164 for Ergon House in central Athens? This was the dilemma that I was presented with while booking an overnight stay in the Greek capital.
Since airport hotels can be so generic it hurts, I decided on the city centre hotel instead. That meant taking the train from the airport to Syntagma Square which was very easy and from there the hotel is a short walk down the road.
Ergon House
Ergon is a purveyor of delicious food in Athens, and Ergon House is a hotel above their store. This is a boutique hotel that is hip, fab and groovy. On arrival I was directed to the right and found the lift up to check-in.
A Small Room at Ergon House
Trying to be as budget conscious as possible, I selected the smallest room. It turned out to be perfectly sized and would be completely fine for two people.
Being a boutique hotel worth their salt, it had all the little things you might need, including a robe and slippers. I’d been tossing up getting a Marshall speaker for home, so I was very happy when I found this. I put it through its paces with the music on my phone and was pretty pleased with the sound.
The two included apples were a nice touch, but I didn’t eat them. I find them difficult to bite into, so usually I’ll slice them first. All in all, the room was everything a decent hotel room should be.
Breakfast
Breakfast is included for all guests for free. Since they are a food place, I was quite looking forward to it. Once downstairs, I picked a healthy fruity option, a latte and a juice.
Overall Thoughts
With its location a minute from Syntagma Square, you would be mad to miss Ergon House. The whole place had a really good vibe, both the whole way it was laid out, the food shop and all the staff and customers.
For a decently priced stay in Athens, you can’t really go wrong here. All around the hotel are plenty of other places to eat so it’s really perfectly placed. I’d stay here again without any quibbles.
