The Monte Casino complex is a great place to stay when you are in Johannesburg. It consists of 4 different hotels, a casino, cinemas, restaurants, shops and the Teatro (a theater which opened about 20 years ago with the first performance in Africa of ‘The Lion King’.)
I see that ‘Chicago’ and ‘Cats’ will be at the Teatro over the next few months.
The 4 hotels are the 5 star Palazzo hotel which averages about $200 a night; the Pivot, a 4 star hotel at about $150 a night; the Piazza hotel, 3 star at $100 a night and the Perte hotel, 3 star at about $60 a night. Because the Rand /Dollar exchange rate is so good to the dollar the Palazzo is only about $200 a night but is comparable with most 5 star hotels in the USA and Europe that charge more than $500 a night.
I have stayed at the Piazza before but this time I tried the Perte. A perfectly good 2-3 star hotel for $50 is great quality.
The lobby:
This is the reception desk. Seeing all the helmets immediately tells you that this is no ordinary hotel.
This is the mural behind the reception desk. Very elegant and colorful.
One of my favorite items in the lobby. This van has a perfectly good coffee machine in it for your pleasure. You can see that there is an outside deck through the glass behind the van.
The lobby is a creative force with all sorts of arty items in it.
There are various seating areas available, this is the one I enjoyed the most.
The room:
A perfectly good 2 bed and a desk room. It has a tv and shelves for your clothes.
There is also a safe provided.
The desk has this multi plug available.
These charging ports are available at the table between the beds.
This is the tea/coffee shelf. I love that all hotels in South Africa provide you with a regular kettle and 2 proper mugs.
The bathroom:
The sink has soap provided and 2 glasses, This lovely mirror is a feature of the bathroom. The shower has a variable spray head and has shampoo provided.
This picture is in the bathroom, I can add it to my collection of bathroom pictures from around the world.
The mirror is provided on the wall of the bedroom which I found most useful.
Outside the entrance:
This is the walk up from the drop off area. A lovely large lobby with wonderful big glass windows.
This fountain is part of the area on the other side of the lobby when you walk to the casino and restaurants.
Conclusion:
My stay at the Hotel Perte was rather nice. It is a very nice hotel with some interesting quirks in it like the coffee van.
For the money it is extremely good value.
The next time I am in Johannesburg I will stay at the Palazzo so I can show you the luxury available too.
