Frequent readers of this blog may have noticed that I book a majority of my hotel stays with Hilton. Even though Hilton gets quite a bad rap for its devaluation, I still like the fact that Hilton points are really easy to earn. Moreover, Hilton’s global footprint is just perfect for my style of travel, since most of it is international in nature. Currently, American Express is offering an elevated offer on their co-branded Hilton Honors cards. However, one offer particularly caught my eye. It’s the offer for the Hilton Surpass Card. If you have Hilton stays on the horizon, now is a great time to go for this card. Here are a few reasons.

Hilton Surpass Card Welcome Bonus

Amex is currently offering the best ever public offer for the Hilton surpass card that we’ve seen in a long time. With this offer, you’ll earn a welcome bonus of 180,000 Hilton Honors points. This bonus is divided into two tiers.

  • You’ll earn a welcome bonus of 130,000 points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months. You’ll earn an additional 50,000 bonus points when you spend a total of $10,000 in the first 6 months.
  • If you simply spend $1,667 on this card for a 6 months, you’ll end up with a minimum of 210,000 Hilton Honors points after the 6 month period if over.

Mid Tier Card, free Gold Elite Status

If you’re not willing to spend $450 for a premium card like the Hilton Aspire, the Hilton Surpass card is a very viable option for a card that charges an annual fee of $95. Also, with the Hilton Surpass card, you’ll automatically get Gold elite status, which I think is arguably the most valuable mid tier status level if you compare the major hotel chains.

You get some of these amazing benefits simply by carrying the Hilton Surpass card in your wallet:

  • Complimentary WiFi
  • 80% Bonus points earning on stays
  • 5th night free on award stays using points
  • Free continental breakfast
  • Space available room upgrades

Over the last decade, I’ve stayed at Hilton brands all over the world. Some of my favorite elite status benefits have been the 5th night free feature and complimentary breakfast.

Free Night Certificate

This is another reason why I’d recommend that you jump on this offer. Usually you’d earn a free night certificate when you’d spend $15,000 on the Hilton Surpass card in a calendar year. Let’s say you sign up for the card today. In 6 months, you would’ve spent $10,000 to meet the welcome bonus.

You only need to spend an additional $5,000 before the end of the year and you’ll not only end up with a minimum of 15,000 extra Hilton Honors points, but also with a free weekend night award at any Hilton property around the world.

If you sign up for the card today and simply spend a minimum of $2,143 each month until the end of the year, you’ll get the welcome bonus of 180,000 points and a free weekend night certificate.

Points Earning

For a card that charges an annual fee of $95, the points earning potential is pretty solid.

  • 12x Hilton Honors points on eligible purchases in the Hilton portfolio
  • 6x points on dining (including takeout and delivery), gas and groceries (only in the US)
  • 3x points on all other purchases

Lounge Access

The Hilton Surpass card offers cardmembers the ability to access Priority Pass loungers by offering them 10 complimentary visits. Lounge visits can easily cost upwards of $30, so you’d be saving at least $300 annually on lounge visits.

Other Benefits

In additional to a stellar points earning potential, the Hilton Surpass card also offer some valuable additional benefits and protections:

  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Car rental loss and damage insurance
  • Add authorized users for no fee

Earning Hilton Honors Points

If you’re looking to rack up more Hilton points, then American Express is currently offering a special points transfer promo. Instead of the standard 1,000:2000 ratio, you’ll earn 2,800 Hilton Honors points for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points you transfer to Hilton Honors.

Moreover, Hilton is also running a points purchase promo, offering a 100% bonus on points purchases. You can buy up to a total of 320,000 Hilton Honors points.

The Pundit’s Mantra

With 180,000 points on offer and the possibility of earning a free night certificate this year, the Hilton Surpass card is a great option to carry in your wallet. In addition to the bonus points and free night, you’ll earn at least 6x Hilton points on everyday purchases like groceries, gas and dining.
