A few weeks back, Amex refreshed their coveted Platinum cards with a lot of fanfare. Amex has been talking a lot about how they plan to continuously relook and refresh many of their credit cards. I picked up this credit card right after it was launched.
Valuable Credit Card going away for good?
Amex launched their lineup of what they termed as ‘everyday’ credit cards back in 2014. Back then, these cards were really valuable as they offered great return on everyday spend. Moreover, you could earn extra points after making 20 or 30 purchases per month, based on the card. I’ve carried the Amex Everyday Preferred Card for many years in my wallet.
Late last year, I reached out to Amex about the fact that the card had disappeared from their website. The rep told me that she didn’t have any knowledge about upcoming changes but I was told that Amex would make an announcement soon. The only thing that she told me was the card was not available for fresh applications.
Reaching Out to Amex
I reached out to Amex once again to know what’s going on with the credit card. I got an answer that was on similar lines. However, what’s noteworthy that during this time, the rep specifically told me that the card is not going away or getting converted to any other product.

The Pundit’s Mantra
If you’re still holding on to your Amex Everyday credit cards, then this is good news. The bad news is that you don’t really have the option to upgrade if you’re looking to get the card by some other route, as it’s closed to new applicants.
