New advisory extends Hawaii travel restrictions, once again

hawaii travel restrictions

Over the last few months, we’ve all been closely monitoring the situation at many of our favorite travel destinations. While the situation at home may not be promising, many frequent travelers are hoping for the situation to improve gradually. However, it does seem like we may have to wait a little longer. Hawaii continues to be a favorite for many frequent travelers. Unfortunately, it seems like Hawaii is likely to extend travel restrictions further, gutting the hopes of many who were planning to travel there soon. This new advisory is all set to continue existing travel restrictions put in place by the state of Hawaii.

Hawaii Travel Restrictions – Updated Advisory

Hawaii’s Governor David Ige announced what many travelers feared the most – that the state won’t open up for tourism until October at the earliest.

We will continue to monitor the conditions here in Hawaii as well as key markets on the mainland to determine the appropriate start date for the pre-travel (COVID-19) testing program. We cannot deny that Hawaii is seeing a surge in the positive COVID-19 cases that we’re seeing. There are numerous clusters and wide community spread.

The most recent move is in response to another surge in Covid-19 cases in the state. Earlier, many had hoped that September would mark the beginning of travel to Hawaii resuming once again. USA Today reports that Hawaii now plans to make an announcement well before the reopening date in the future in order to help its hospitality industry staff up adequately.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Over the past few months, I’ve written frequently how many governments will tend to err on the side of caution before reopening their economies. Hawaii’s approach seems to be on similar lines. They’re simply responding to the numbers they see on the mainland and are taking precautionary measures.

However, if you’re still planning to travel elsewhere, then please refer to this resource for a country by country list of travel restrictions.
