Dublin Airport introduces Fast-Track Unlimited – is it worth buying?

Fast-Track security is hands down one of my favourite things to have when travelling. I’m quite an impatient person, so anything that eases the waiting times before a flight is a boon to me. Dublin Airport has just introduced a new product called Fast-Track Unlimited, which will be of interest to some people.

Two products are being offered, a six month version and an annual one. Pricing is €150 for the half year and €250 for the yearly, which are discounts for the launch from the usual prices of €199 and €320 respectively. Is it worth it?

Unlimited Fast-Track would suit…

Well, it depends on who you are and what you do. A quick dummy booking shows that buying Fast-Track for 6am on 18 September prices at €10.99 in T1 or €13.99 in T2. Change that to 3pm and it’s €9.99 for both. Amend it again for Tuesday 11 November at 3pm and it’s €5.99 for both, a price I consider to be reasonable.

Let’s say €9.00 is the average price. You’d need to depart Dublin 16 times in six months to get decent value out of it, or 28 times on the annual plan. Remove the introductory discount and this increases to 22 and 35 times. If you’re travelling out of Dublin every week, it becomes a good idea.

People flying this frequently on Aer Lingus, for example, should have status in the Aer Lingus AerClub. That provides Fast-Track for free, so those passengers should not buy this. Anyone travelling less than every other week would also not be the target.

However, Ryanair has a large network out of Dublin and no loyalty programme. Therefore, all the people flying regularly for business on that airline would be the target market for this. That is a decent cohort of people, so for these flyers it absolutely makes sense.

Overall Thoughts

Fast-Track Unlimited is available on the Dublin Airport website. I think it would make a lovely early Christmas present for the frequent flyer in your life who might need it. Also, as there is an introductory discount, jumping in now before that goes is a no-brainer.

Considering the time saved and peace of mind that people get from having Fast-Track, I would recommend a purchase. As long as it is for someone who is flying very frequently and who doesn’t have the benefit already as part of their frequent flyer status.
