The newest security scanner on the block is the C3 and airports around the world are rushing to adopt it. With its advanced imaging technology, it allows for quite a few enhancements.
Dublin Airport has just completed their roll out, which is great news indeed. It has come in a little earlier than planned, and means airport security should be even better than before.
New scanner, so what changes?
Let’s face it, airport security has to be the single worst part of the travel experience. Anything to make it better has to be very welcome and finally there is some good news.
Since the liquid restrictions were stupidly brought in many years ago, hundreds of thousands of bottles of product the wrong size have been discarded at airports around the world. That changes now. The new scanner permits people to bring as many liquids as they like up to two litres in size.
This is all fantastic news, but there is one caveat. You must check the rules for the other airport in your trip. No point taking huge amounts of liquids only to find out that when you’re coming back you’re coming from an airport with old scanners and need to throw everything away!
Overall Thoughts
The day that every airport operates the C3 scanner will come. It won’t come soon enough for frequent flyers, who have had to put up with the liquid rules thanks to a plot in 2006 to bring liquid explosives onto flights.
Dublin Airport have rightly put out a very pleased with themselves press release about this. For once, I agree – it’s worth celebrating (and to be fair, Dublin security is usually fast and friendly all the time, so they’re doing something right!).
