As I needed to get in some more sectors to get Gold status in Aegean’s Miles + Bonus programme, some inexpensive domestic flights were booked. I decided to fly from Athens to Thessaloniki and back as it was short and there were plenty of flights per day.
My ticket cost me €125, but then there were some other changes that meant I needed to change my flight. Another €59 later and I was all set, with my cheap economy class flights being anything but.
Flying out of Athens
Silver members of Miles + Bonus have lounge passes, but they are not accepted in the Schengen Aegean lounge. I therefore spent some time in the terminal, eating some food from Pret, followed by some Loukoumades. Eventually boarding was called and once again it was a total scrum with no groups enforced.
A3126 – Athens to Thessaloniki (ATH-SKG)
19 November 2025
Airbus A320neo – SX-NES
Seat: Economy 4A
Departure: 19:55 Arrival: 20:50
After taking a sweet from the crew member at the door, I settled in to row four, the first row of economy. The flight was completely full in both business class and economy, and after the safety demonstration in Greek and English we took to the sky. Minutes later, the crew came through offering drinks and snacks.
Domestic flying from Thessaloniki
Next morning, I was back. Before the flight I spent time at the lovely Aegean Lounge, sampling the food on offer and enjoying the peace and quiet. Boarding takes place from the lounge (hooray!), so we hopped in to our priority bus and drove off to the aircraft.
A3107 – Thessaloniki to Athens (SKG-ATH)
20 November 2025
Airbus A320 – SX-DGI
Seat: Economy 30D
Departure: 09:10 Arrival: 10:05
Naturally we were first to arrive, and we all left the bus, most heading for the front stairs and some to the rear. I didn’t select a seat, so I was assigned 30B by the algorithm, a middle seat in the last row. There was already a lady sat in the window seat, so I sat beside her and waited to see if I could switch. Boarding seemed to finish, so I scooched to the aisle seat… until a last minute passenger boarded, who was in the C seat.
Overall Thoughts
Aegean’s domestic economy class is perfectly fine. The fact you get complimentary items is very good, even if they are basic. I would have liked to have paid less than I did for the flights, but not much I can do about that.
Both the brioche and the nuts were quite nice. For a 50 minute service, it’s remarkable something is served at all. This is an exceptionally popular route, and everyone seemed to be a regular. Everything ran like clockwork and I have no complaints.
What do you think of Aegean’s economy class domestic service? Is there anyone who does it better? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
