In a tragic incident that happened on Monday, a woman in her sixties, who had just finished riding the Halloween version of the Haunted Mansion, reportedly suffered a heart attack during the ride. By the time medical teams reached to assist, it was too late. She was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Disneyland Guest Dies During Halloween Ride

The Halloween ride usually takes guests on a slow moving ride on buggies that they call “doom buggies”, moving at a speed of about one mile per hour. Given the slow speed of the ride, Disneyland staff members said tbat customers are more prone to dozing off as opposed getting a cardiac arrest, given how slowly the ride moves.

As per the Los Angeles Times, the incident took place on Monday evening. The incident is still under investigation and we don’t know yet if the woman was already nursing a heart condition.

Anaheim police confirmed that fire and rescue units responded at 6:30 p.m. and found a woman in her 60s unresponsive. She had just finished riding the Halloween version of the Haunted Mansion, which combines characters from Tim Burton’s famed “The Nightmare Before Christmas” movie with the classic features of the iconic ride.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Disneyland officials have committed to completing a thorough investigation into the matter and have assured full transparency into the incident. At the moment, we have very little information about what may have caused the death. However, as per the agency official that manages the rides, this shouldn’t deter visitors from coming to the theme parks again, as they take full precautions while running these rides and will cooperate right through the entire investigation into this matter.

“Transparency comes at the highest level for Disney,” Speigel said. “It’s much safer to ride Space Mountain or any ride at Disneyland for a month straight than to drive one day on the 405 Freeway.”
