Day Use Review: Aerotel London Heathrow

Background

Since I was going to have an 8-hour layover at London Heathrow, I decided to grab a hotel at the airport to catch up on some sleep. I wanted it to be convenient, so I could just walk to the hotel and not have to resort to a bus/shuttle. Since I would be flying into Terminal 3 and out of Terminal 2, that left me with two options: the Aerotel London Heathrow Terminal 3 and the Hilton Garden Inn.

The Hilton Garden Inn had a 9 am to 5 pm day rate for 8 hours for 99 GBP. My flight didn’t land til 10 am, and I really didn’t need it to 5 pm since my next flight was at 6 pm. I called to ask if they had any shorter packages, but they said no.

The Aerotel website allowed you to pick the hours you wanted, and for stays up to 6 hours, it was 65 GBP for a Solo Plus (Single Room). I thought this was perfect for me, and so I reserved it from 11 am to 5 pm. For stays over 6 hours, it changed to an overnight rate that was over 200 GBP.

Check-In

First, I went to the Virgin Atlantic Revivals Lounge for breakfast, then headed to the Aerotel to sleep.

The entrance to the Aerotel was just a quick walk after leaving baggage claim at Terminal 3.

Amenities

I was quickly checked in, and at the front desk, there are grab-and-go snacks for purchase. The rooms are located on the first and second floors. Also, the second floor features a library/seating area if you want to get work done in more space with a complimentary coffee/tea machine.

Solo Plus Room at Aerotel London Heathrow

My room was located on the first floor (so second floor for those from the U.S.) It’s stated to be 10 m2, and feels like a cruise ship inside cabin, as there are no windows. It was actually decently appointed, to my surprise, and I was expecting a smaller bed, to be honest. The bed could definitely fit two, though the website does say the maximum occupancy for this room is 1. The bedding was pretty decent, close to a 3-4 star hotel level.

There were three hangers on the wall to hang clothes, and a sizeable luggage rack. A complimentary bottle of water was provided, as well as a hot water kettle for tea and coffee (which was provided). There was a TV in front of the bed as well.

The private bathroom was tight, but totally sufficient. There was a single sink, toilet, and a shower. The water pressure was surprisingly good, and the tile was nicely appointed. Apologies for forgetting to take a photo of the bathroom.

Amenities in the bathroom included a shower cap, cotton swabs, and also shampoo, shower gel, and soap from Appelles Apothecary and Lab.

If you wanted more space and weren’t travelling solo, an upgrade to a Double Room was 10 GBP more for my hours (75 GBP).

The Verdict

Overall, the Aerotel London was perfect for my extended layover at Heathrow. The single room had everything you needed and allowed me to catch up on sleep. I would definitely consider staying here again if my travels include a long London layover in the future.
