The Chase Sapphire Reserve underwent a refresh back in June. Chase added a lot of new benefits to the card, but also increased the annual fee on the card to $795. I first picked up the Chase Sapphire Reserve back in 2016, when it was launched. Once Covid-19 hit, I decided to downgrade the card to Chase Sapphire Preferred. Ever since, I’ve carried the Chase Sapphire Preferred card in my wallet as my go-to card for travel spend. As per Doctor of Credit, Chase is targeting certain Sapphire Preferred cardholders with offers to upgrade to the Sapphire Reserve.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Upgrade Offers

Chase is sending these offers out via email. A few weeks back, we had heard news that Chase would be sending out offers enticing customers to upgrade to the Reserve. That seems to have materialized.

Once existing cardholders upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, they will be charged an annual fee of $795. They will need to pay an additional $195 for every authorized user they add. With this offer, targeted cardholders need to upgrade by Jan 31 and spend by $3,000 by Feb 14, 2026 in order earn 25,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

On one hand, this offer has a pretty short time frame in which you need to meet the minimum spend requirement. On the other hand, the spend requirement is pretty low. $3,000 is a pretty small amount for most people and they should be able to put that much spend on the card in a month’s time.

The Pundit’s Mantra

When we started hearing initial murmurs about these offers, I was actually quite excited and would’ve considered an upgrade, albeit for a year, to try the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. However, if 25,000 points are going to be the standard, then I’d rather keep my Sapphire Preferred open and pass for now. Had the bonus been of 50,000 points or more, I probably would’ve signed up for an offer like that. If you’re considering an upgrade, then you must compare the benefits, bonus points and other perks are you will be getting for the hefty $795 that you will be paying each year.

At the moment, I haven’t received any such email targeting me for the offer. Have you received a targeted offer by email? Do you find this offer good enough to convince you to upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card? Tell us in the comments section.
