Chase recently hiked the annual fee on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card from $550 to $795. Just a few weeks back, I wrote about how we now need to look at premium credit cards differently, with increases in annual fees making it difficult for many folks to carry multiple premium credit cards in their wallet. The Chase Sapphire Preferred has been my go-to card for years now, especially for its low annual fee, simple earning structure and the ability to transfer points to Chase’s transfer partners. However, is that about to change and is Chase looking to increase its annual fee as well? Let’s have a look.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Changes – next in line?
The rumor stems from a Reddit post which claims that after a conversation with a Chase rep, the rep told the poster that the annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Preferred will be $150. As per the original Reddit poster, the rep said that Chase would increase the fee to $150 effective January 1, 2026.
Not sure if this has been covered before but I just got off the phone with Chase (I was inquiring about getting my wife the Freedom Flex; no applications until September/October I was told) when I asked if there would be any changes to the CSP.
He told me that starting Jan 1, 2026, the annual fee will go up to $150 without any changes to rewards or multipliers.
Has anyone else heard the same?
The Pundit’s Mantra
Just a few weeks back, Chase debunked rumors about the fact that they were also about to increase annual fees on the Ritz Carlton Credit card. When it comes to reps, you never know, sometimes you get a really knowledgeable rep. Sometimes, you get someone who drops the ball by either revealing information they shouldn’t have or by simply giving out incorrect information.
While I do think that Chase could hike annual fees on the Sapphire Preferred given their recent track record, I wouldn’t put much weight on a data point from just one customer service rep.
The annual fee of $95 just posted to my Chase Sapphire Preferred at the end of July. I’ll gladly keep the card for yet another year. It continues to provide great value for the $95 fee is charges and gives me easy access to Chase’s transfer partners.

How could they raise the price and not add value? There is no track record for this happening before. Even the IHG move from 89 to 99 came with small upgrades
