Background and Location

After visiting Hearst Castle, I wanted to find a spot on the road trip that would be nice to spend a night at. I’ve driven past Paso Robles before, but never stayed in the city, so when I saw the newly opened Ava Hotel Paso Robles, a Curio Collection property, pop up, I was sold.

The Ava Hotel Paso Robles opened in August 2025 and features 151 guest rooms and suites. It’s conveniently located just steps from the heart of downtown near the City Park, surrounded by tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops. It can also be a good base to explore the larger Paso Robles wine region.

It’s a really cute small town, and I particularly enjoyed walking from the property and having a nice meal at Thai Classic in Paso and some amazing sheep’s milk ice cream at Negranti Creamery.

Takeoff Points for the Ava Hotel Paso Robles

Pros: Great new property in a central Paso Robles location, love the 2 King Bed room type.
Con: Parking Fee
Takeoff Point: Overall, the Ava Hotel Paso Robles is a solid new property centrally located in Paso Robles.

Arrival

There’s an outdoor parking lot ($20 nightly) or valet parking available ($30 nightly). At check-in, the front desk agent was friendly and told me to try to see if a spot opened up in front of the property, as the row of parking spots in front of the hotel is complimentary. Perhaps since we were staying on a Sunday night, he was optimistic a spot would open up, and it did!

The Room: 2 King Beds

Our room was on the top floor (4), and the elevator landing and hallways were fresh.

Upon entering the room, to the left is a nice open space that features a two-sided walk-in closet with hangers on each side, a safe, and a steamer.

Then, there is a minibar area with a Nespresso Machine and a mini fridge for personal use.

The room itself is lovely and features 2 king-sized beds with a nightstand in between. The nightstand has USB-A and power plugs (why not USB-C!). The beds were comfortable, with nice pillows, and the sheets were high quality but a bit on the thinner side.

The sofa was cool and had a power outlet and, thankfully, a new USB-C port. There was also a table and one armchair, which was nice.

The bathroom had a singular vanity with plenty of counter space. The standup shower had a shower head, but was missing a wand.

Toiletries were offered in small eco-friendly bottles. The toiletries were from the Lather brand, which offered hand lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body gel in a bamboo lemongrass scent.

Amenities

The fitness center is large and quite nice, featuring two Pelotons as well.

The second floor also offers an outdoor pool and rooftop bar/restaurant called Esperanza. There are some rooms with patios and pool access if you would prefer those.

The hotel does charge a destination fee of about $35. It includes a daily $10 food & beverage credit, a two-hour bike rental for two, a picnic basket rental for two with glassware & blanket.

Dining

The hotel offers three dining options, the first being Pine Street Bistro, located in the lobby. It’s an all-day offering, with a La Colombe Espresso Bar, and serves breakfast and lunch. Then in the evening, it focuses on its bar & has light bites.

Esperanza on the Rooftop features Baja- and Latin-inspired coastal fare, and is open daily for dinner, with weekend lunch to late-night offerings.

EMRE restaurant offers Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and is open five days a week for dinner and weekend breakfast.

Since I stayed on Sunday night, the option to have breakfast in the morning was the Pine Street Bistro, and we decided to order takeout and enjoy it in our room. If you wanted to dine in, there is some seating in a more fast casual style where you take a number, choose a table, and they will bring out your order. The food was actually quite good!

The Verdict

Overall, I had a very comfortable stay at the Ava Hotel Paso Robles. The rooms were designed well, and it was cool to have a room with 2 King Beds. I would definitely stay here again if my travels bring me back to the Paso Robles area.
