Yesterday, American Express revealed two new card refreshes – one on the Amex Platinum Card (Consumer) and the Business Platinum Card as well. While there was no new welcome bonus on the consumer version, the business version is showing up some amazing welcome bonuses. I was able to pull up a welcome bonus of 250,000 Membership Rewards points by using a referral link.

Business Platinum Card – Welcome Bonus

With this welcome bonus offer on the Business Platinum Card, you’ll earn a welcome bonus of 250,000 Membership Rewards points. The annual fee for the card is now $895. The annual fee for every additional employee card is now $400!

Some sources have cited that certain customers are being targeted for offers as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards points. However, while the public offer is for 200,000 points, I was able to pull up a 250,000 points offer using a referral link.

With this welcome bonus offer, you’ll earn 250,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $20,000 in the first 3 months of card membership.

If you’re not able to see the offer right away, you can try a few things:

  • Open the link in incognito or private browsing mode

New Benefits

In addition to their existing benefits, here are the new additions and modifications made to the Business Platinum Card.

  • Customers can opt for a brand new ‘mirror finish’ design
  • $600 Hotel Credit: Earn up to $600 in credits annually with Fine Hotels & Resorts and The Hotel Collection ($300 bi-annually)
  • 35% rebate on flights booked with the Pay with Points featured – now only with your selected airline
  • Complimentary Sterling Status with Leading Hotels of the World (free breakfast, upgrades and complimentary wifi)
  • Dell Credits: $150 per calendar year, additional $1,000 when you spend over $5,000 per year
  • 2x Membership Rewards points for every dollar you spend on every single purchase of $5,000 or more (Max 4 million points per year)
  • $250 off on Adobe purchases of $600 on more each calendar year

Amex is also offering new benefits for businesses that spend over $250,000 in a calendar year:

  • $1,200 Amex Travel Online Flight Statement Credit (for use in the next calendar year)
  • $2,400 in statement credits on American Express AP One Monthly Fees (for use in the next calendar year)

The Pundit’s Mantra

Amex has a pretty stringent ‘once in a lifetime rule’ by which they don’t let you get the welcome bonus on the same card again and again. However, every now and then, Amex does target existing customers with new bonuses on the same products. This has been especially visible with business credit cards over the last few years.

If you’re eligible for the welcome bonus, then 250,000 points is a fabulous bonus to get started with. You can try all the benefits for the first year in addition to the 250,000 points and then make a decision about whether you want to keep the card from the second year onwards.
