Review: Business class on Aegean Airlines, Athens to London Heathrow

Aegean Airlines is one of the airlines that offers the ability to bid for an upgrade before flight. This is powered by the PlusGrade platform, which seems to be used by all the carriers offering upgrade auctions.

For this flight, I was booked in economy but decided to give the bidding a whirl, as I’d never done it before. I went with the lowest amount possible, which was €130, and happily that turned out to be enough.

Let’s fly Aegean Airlines

This trip was all part of my quest to be Gold in the Miles+Bonus programme. I’d flown from Dublin to Athens the night before, and then stayed in the city at Ergon House Hotel. After a sleep, it was back to the airport for this flight.

A3602 – Athens to London Heathrow (ATH-LHR)
15 November 2025
Airbus A321neo – SX-NAB
Seat: Business Class 1F
Departure: 13:25 Arrival: 15:30

Business class passengers seem to get Boarding Group 2, presumably after the Gold frequent flyers. I headed down the aerobridge, was greeted with the usual friendly “Yassas!” and took my seat in the front row.

The best seats in the house

Front row seats have good and bad points. You have more space at face level, but you usually can’t stretch your legs out as far due to the divider in front of you. You also have no space for a small bag under the seat in front, as there isn’t one. Even so, as I’m not particularly tall, I’ll take these at every opportunity.

Welcome drinks are offered and once again I must say the finger of sparkling wine is faintly ridiculous. Choose water or juice and it’s a full glass, while this is stingy in the extreme. I perused the menu while waiting for boarding to complete, and once done we had the safety demonstration in Greek and English then took to the sky above Athens.

A lunch fit for a King!

Aegean Airlines has some of the best inflight dining in Europe, though I think SWISS still has the edge. As I’d enjoyed the food on my previous flight, I knew I was in for quality so I went for the seafood option.

The Seabass turned out to be wonderful, and I was pleasantly surprised by the Olive Paste for the bread. I could have had a meal of that on its own, it is that good. Dessert came as a separate course, and it was also delicious. Green tea to finish, something of a tradition for me when flying. I find it really rounds off a big meal with a bit of a healthy buzz.

Overall Thoughts

I find Aegean Airlines business class to be very satisfactory. Quality food, a decent array of drinks and friendly service means it’s up there among the better products within Europe.

Wi-Fi is available and it also worked very well, though I am sure we’ll all remember inflight Internet of now as being like dialup in the past once everyone moves to Starlink and so on. The flight certainly passed pleasantly and that is really all you can ask for.
