Whoa! Two-thirds of the year is already over. September has already started. This surely has been the year for premium credit cards, with the launch of the new ‘Chase Sapphire Reserve’ and the upcoming refresh to the Amex Platinum Card. Citi has also joined the fray recently with the Strata elite. That and more as we round up some of the top stories on the blog from the month of August.
Is this Chase Sapphire Reserve card welcome bonus actually better?
Chase relaunched the Chase Sapphire Reserve back in June. In my opinoin, the welcome bonus they offered was meh. However, I think that after the old bonus expired, this new bonus may actually be better than the one offered after the card was refreshed back in June.
Higher annual fee coming to the Chase Sapphire Preferred too?
This is a rumor that popped up as a Chase rep mentioned to a customer that a higher annual fee is coming to the Chase Sapphire Preferred starting next year. However, since then, Chase has debunked the rumor that there are no plans to increase the fee on the card, for now.

New Amex credit cards coming out soon?
Amex is sending out surveys to existing customers which hint at the possible launch of new business credit cards with the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. In essence, Amex could have a similar lineup as the one they offer with the consumer versions of their co-branded credit cards with Marriott Bonvoy.

‘Once in a lifetime’ rule in place for Chase Sapphire Cards?
Multiple data points are hinting at the fact that Chase may be tightening the screws when it comes to earning multiple Sapphire card bonuses. If you look at the terms and conditions, it does seem now that similar to Amex, Chase also has a ‘once in a lifetime’ rule in place for their Sapphire cards as well, in addition to their One Sapphire Bonus rule.
