The Aurora Hotel is the airport hotel for Iceland’s Keflavik Airport. This is the main international airport for Iceland, which is around 50km or 31 miles from Reykjavik. Top tip, don’t take a taxi like I did back in 2005, as it’s extremely expensive!
I had a quick overnight stop as I was taking two Icelandair flights to try out their Saga Premium business class. After trying the Gin Library on the flight, I walked straight across the road from the terminal to check-in to the hotel.

Check-in was a breeze, efficiently handled, with them charging the card I had provided when I booked. From there it was up into the lift and to my room. As you can see, it’s nothing flash and definitely designed for the short overnight stay.
Overall Thoughts
With a location that really is steps from the terminal, the Aurora Hotel is perfect for those with early departures. I was out at 5:30am for my flight, and not having to spend an hour or so getting to the airport was pure bliss.
There is a small bar in the lobby where you can get drinks, as well as a dining area. At the reception desk, they also sell crisps and chocolates if you feel peckish. All in all, it was fine.
