At least 7 dead after deadly plane crash in Louisville

A UPS cargo plane that took off at around 5.15 PM on Tuesday, November 4th, crashed after take off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). The plane was on its way to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International airport. As per reports so far, this plane crash has already resulted in the deaths of 7 people.

Tragic Plane Crash Shocks Louisville

The plane was an MD-11 and crashed into an area which was a diesel fuel storage facility for trucking companies in the area.

At per initial reports, 7 people were declared dead. Unfortunately, as per Governor Andy Beshear, those numbers are likely to only increase.

At least seven people are dead and 11 injured. There are two people in critical condition and eight with non-life-threatening injuries at UofL hospitals.

Gov. Andy Beshear said he expects those numbers to grow. He also said there were two employees from a nearby auto store who are unaccounted for.

As per WKLY, the plane was fully fueled for an 8 hour flight, carrying 38,000 gallons of fuel.

Because of the long trip, the plane was fully fueled, leading to a large fire. It was carrying about 38,000 gallons of fuel. The fire spread easily to nearby facilities, including a large recycling center.

So far, there are no reports of anyone trapped, but more than a dozen entities are on the scene and nearby buildings are being searched.

Fire officials said they are going door-to-door in the immediate area to make sure everyone is accounted for.

Right after the incident occurred, UPS put out an official statement about what had transpired.

After the incident, police issued a shelter in place order for all areas within 5 miles from the airport. In addition to the loss of life, the damage to the airport and its operations will result in significant operational disruptions.

As per CNN, the Louisville International Airport is a critical airport for the likes of UPS, given the massive volume of people and packages that pass through as part of daily operations.

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is the worldwide air hub for UPS. The company’s Worldport is more than 5 million square feet where more than 12,000 UPS employees process more than two million packages a day, according to the company.
