In the miles and points space, we love our transferable points currencies. One of the best aspects of some currencies is the ability to combine your points with your family or spouse. Chase has been allowing people to do precisely that and the process has been working pretty smoothly over the years. However, Frequent Miler reports that some customers are having issues with combining their points, due to a Chase security notification asking them for further verification. I tried to do it on my own and here’s how it panned out.
Combining Chase Ultimate Rewards Points
Apparently, some people are running into issues while trying to combine points even across their own accounts. This proces has always been pretty easy. Let’s say you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the Chase Freedom Flex. It usually is very easy to move points from the Freedom card to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card with just a few clicks. As per some data points, customers, even while using the same login, are having to call Chase to verify their identity before initiating a transfer. Just to see what’s going on, I logged into my account and tried the process on my own to see what results show up.
Trying it out myself
In case you’ve not done this before, here’s how it works. You first need to log into your Chase account and click on the Chase Ultimate Rewards points tab on the right, which usually shows you your points balance. You will then see a screen with your card details and points earning history. Over there, click on the ‘Manage Rewards’ tab and select ‘Combine Points’.

In this case, I was looking to move points from my Chase Ink Business Unlimited account to my Chase Sapphire Preferred account. I had 69,000 points which I could move to that account.

The next screen asked me to confirm before proceeding.

Then, I got a notification to confirm my identity by tapping the notification I received on my phone through the Chase App.

After verifying my identity on my phone, the transfer was completed successfully without any further issues.

The Pundit’s Mantra
Overall, the glitch appears to be appearing at the last point of identity verification. Some people like me (who got luicky) got through that phase and could transfer the points. Others, also verified successfully, but only to be met with the following message: “We’re having trouble confirming your identity right now. For your security, we’ll cancel this request. Please try again later.”
The ability to combine points is a great feature that I’ve used multiple times over the years. Not just within my own account, but the best thing has been to have the ability to move points over from my wife’s account and use them to book a trip for all of us.
Have you tried transferring Chase points recently between your own card accounts or to a spouse or partner and encountered any errors or issues? Tell us in the comments section.

We’re having trouble confirming your identity right now. For your security, we’ll cancel this request. Please try again later… is what I get when trying to redeem points in the Apple Store.
I have noted this problem for over a month. Doesn’t matter if I try to move points from my CFU to CSP or my CFF to CSP.
iOS app seems to work without 2FA
That’s great. It seems to be affecting only some users right now. I’ve done all my transfers over the years on desktop and haven’t run into issues.
I have a Sapphire Reserve account and my wife Sapphire Preferred. If combining UR points, is there an advantage as to which account holds them?
If you have points sitting in your CSR account, you can redeem them at 1.5 cents per point if you’ve earned them before Oct 25, whereas moving them to CSP would give you a 1.25 cents per points when you redeem via Chase Travel. https://www.reddit.com/r/ChaseSapphire/comments/1ofuxgv/update_reminder_to_transfer_points_to_your/
The only time I’ve run into the “glitch” was when I tried moving my points on my Ink card to with my wife’s CSR. I had to call.
Was this the first time you made such a transfer?
I’ve been dealing with this for a month or so and it’s a huge pain in the butt. In addition, I’m unable to transfer points to partners. I have to call Chase every time I wish to combine or transfer points.
That’s terrible. In an ideal world, the 2FA should be working smoothly.
