If you’ve been in the miles and points space for long enough, then you know that people in this space are pretty protective about their miles and points balances. They don’t want to get into the bad books of any major issuer and try to tread the line when it comes to following the rules set by issuers. Amex continues to be a popular card issuer in the space, given the amazing welcome bonuses and the plethora of points earning opportunities it offers. However, in this bizarre incident, Amex shut down this customer’s account, only to reinstate it again.

Amex suspends accounts, then unfreezes them

As per this Reddit poster, Amex sent a message saying that the account was suspended. In this case, it wasn’t a case of manufactured spending or anything else (at least based on the initial posts), but it stemmed from the fact that the poster had entered expected business revenue instead of the 2024 personal income on a business credit card application from American Express.

About a month ago, I posted about AMEX suspending my business and personal cards and requesting my 2024 tax return after I opened up a business card with them. I posted my new businesses expected revenue for 2025 instead of my 2024 W-2 Income on the business card application.

I received a lot of backlash saying that I was foolish for putting my businesses estimated revenue on the application instead of my 2024 income. A lot here said that my accounts were likely to be completely closed, that I was “unsophisticated” and essentially screwed.

Despite this, both of my cards were reactivated with my business cards limit being increased ‍♂️ I began to worry due to a lot of the feedback I received here but I guess I was right in reporting the figures I did.

The Pundit’s Mantra

In this case, it was an innocuous mistake based on the post and it’s good to see that the account was reinstated again. However, it always helps to be in the good books of card issuers and be completely truthful and accurate while filling out a credit card application.
