American Airlines special centennial 777 livery will launch the airline’s 100th Anniversary celebration. A special “Flagship” livery on a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft (N735AT) will debut the colors in November. The design brings back the carrier’s original “Flagship” identity, including its historic orange lightning bolt, with its current Silver Eagle paint scheme. The aircraft will also be updated to the new Flagship Suites business class that is currently found on the 787-9Ps. This will also include new Premium Economy seats and Main Cabin seats.

Centennial Celebration
With roughly six months remaining until its official 100-year anniversary (March 2026) American is treating the retro livery to launch the celebrations. The aircraft will be called “Flagship DFW”, paying tribute to the original “Flagship” titles their original aircraft carried. Alongside the new 777 livery, American will roll out centennial-branded merchandise and nostalgic collections via its online store.
History of American Airlines
American was founded when a group of small air carriers consolidated, eventually becoming American Airways and then American Airlines. The airline was the launch customer for the Douglas DC-3 in 1936, eventually becoming one of the trunk carriers in the era before airline deregulation. Over the decades, the carrier introduced prominent innovations, like the first airport lounge at La Guardia Airport in New York. They also launched one of the first loyalty programs and are a founding member of the Oneworld Alliance.

Final Thoughts
It’s really cool to watch American celebrate their 100th Anniversary. This year was Delta’s Centennial and they launched a special livery on their A350s. Personally, I think American’s stands out more. The nostalgia effect brings back one of their coolest designs, I wish they would have picked painting it polished silver. I’m curious to see what other special things they may do to celebrate their 100th. United celebrates their Centennial next year as well, so I am hoping that they will also launch a cool retro livery.

The above is a lament all of us who have joined loyalty programs from the beginning! I started with TWA, KLM(am Dutch) way back, and the loyalty is simply one way only. Paying for loyalty today truly is an insult.
Approx 50% of the time the purser greets me by name on KLM(am platinum for life), for the rest you might as well re-paint their livery to look like RyanAir!
No, even the MBTA service here in Boston is better and that is the ultimate put down.
we will not discusss the food in business class everywhere, in Delta One from AMS just yesterday it was 2! shrimp and a lukewarm beef dish…..let alone wines…..
And any time you bring up the ‘other’, read Qatar, CP, SA, airlines you hear: their governments support them. Well, we know that is a lie, recall the Covid bail out?
No, having started flying internationally in 1971(was on first KLM 747 AMS-JFK) get used to it: you simply are taking a bus. that is all. And they never ask any of us experienced what we think…….
Congrats to AA. I truly hope that they get their act together soon They have slipped in the ranks over and over again with no end in sight. For one they are the most expensive carrier on the block. I tried booking a trip to the Middle East several times and Australia as well. Well, they turned out to be the most expensive around the block over and over again. I have been an AAdvantage member since the program started in 1981/1982. They have devalued the program so many times that’s it’s no longer funny. If I could take all my remaining miles and jump over to Delta I would do it in a jiffy. But no such thing is possible You used to be able to use the Admiral’s club if you had a membership (which I have had for many years) regardless of whether you flew on American that day or not. That changed The membership status is no longer sufficient. You have to be a member AND show them your boarding pass. If it’s not an AA or One World boarding pass good luck trying to get it. It’s like squeeze the AA members and choke them as much as you can. Does not reflect well on AA. I wish them a happy centennial and I hope they start caring more for their AA members and passengers than the almighty dollar It’s a nice fantasy I think
