Air New Zealand will join the longest flights in the world club soon, with a new route from Auckland to New York. This is a distance of 14,207km or 8,828 miles, which is quite a long way indeed.

It will be the first time the airline has served New York non-stop, and should prove popular with passengers. Following are the details on the new service.

Auckland to New York

The Kiwi carrier will commence services on 17 September 2022, with flight NZ2 leaving Auckland at 7:40pm for the 16 hour and 15 minute journey to New York’s Kennedy Airport. A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will operate the thrice weekly service on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Heading back to New Zealand will be flight NZ1, leaving at 8:55pm and it is scheduled to take 17 hours and 35 minutes. Air New Zealand’s famous Skycouch is available for economy class passengers and the Star Alliance airline also has premium economy and business class.

Longest Flights

This new service should land at number four on the list of longest flights in the world. Singapore Airlines’ Singapore to New York Newark is the longest. Qatar Airways Doha to Auckland is second (and I’ve flown it a couple of times).

Next up is the Qantas service from Perth to London, then will be the Air New Zealand service, with Emirates Dubai to Auckland rounding out the top five. It’s actually quite enjoyable flying for that long… in business class anyway!

Overall Thoughts

It is great seeing Air New Zealand doing this non-stop flight to New York. With New Zealand beginning to open up to tourists again, it should be well used once services commence.

What do you think of this flight? Is it something you would take or would you prefer to stop along the way? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
