Have you seen this magnificent new Air France documentary on Concorde?

a plane flying in the sky

Air France is one of just four airlines to operate Concorde commercially. As a joint French/British project, there were great technical innovations, a huge cost and buckets of national pride attached to the aircraft.

First commercial services commenced on 21 January 1976, which is just over 50 years ago. While the sleek jet has been out of service since 2003, many people – both in the industry and outside of it – remember it with fondness.

Air France Concorde Video

Released to coincide with the anniversary of the start of services, the new documentary is called Concorde Air France: They Made the Legend Fly. It is entirely in French (of course) but you can turn on subtitles to enjoy it in English.

It features new interviews with people who worked with the aircraft in service. There are some wonderful stories and anecdotes from cabin crew, pilots and maintenance engineers.

Fascinating are some of the stories around on board service, as well as those from engineering. Seems like the aircraft was a bit difficult to work with compared to others.

It is very well put together, giving a fresh insight into operations. For a change it includes the things people like me really want to know about, so I devoured the presentation.

Overall Thoughts

Air France are rightly proud of their Concorde services. Taking the time to put together a presentation on an aircraft that hasn’t been in service for well over 20 years is quite unusual.

The allure of Concorde never fades and over 200,000 people have viewed the video so far. I recommend you take some time out and give it a watch, it’s worth it.
