After a long hiatus, I finally picked up the gauntlet and resumed travel back in December 2021. If you follow my travels on Instagram, you’d have probably come across my recent trip to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I made good use of my current base in Mumbai, India and used my Aeroplan points to fly business class on Air Vistara. The Andaman and Nicobar islands aren’t the easiest to get to from mainland India but the views are simply stunning and traveling there is completely worth it!

Aeroplan Points – Booking lap Infant tickets online

Our trip in December was our first trip with our infant daughter. While trying to book my ticket online, I was unable to book my daughter’s ticket on the Aeroplan website. A message popped up indicating that I’ll need to call the customer service center in order to book her ticket. Back in December, (and this issue still persists) wait times were arduously long and it took at least 45 minutes to get to an agent on phone.

Just yesterday, I logged into my Aeroplan account to book another trip using my Aeroplan points. I was in for a pleasant surprise. I looked for a ticket for 2 adults and 1 lap infant. To my amazement, a field popped up to enter my daughter’s details. No more waiting on the phone for 45+ minutes to reach a customer service agent!

The ticket booking process was a breeze

I booked my ticket in a matter of 5 minutes and the whole process was pretty easy. The website offered me the option of paying with 2,500 points or $25 in order to book my daughter’s ticket.

Business Class Sweet Spots

Aeroplan points provide a great deal of value for flying with their Star Alliance partners. Unlike United who totally ditched award charts, Aeroplan’s pricing is a lot more reasonable and allows you a lot of great opportunities to leverage some of the sweet spots.

For example, Aeroplan only charges 15,000 points one way for flying business class in India on short haul flights, with carriers like Air Vistara and Air India. Similarly, a long haul flight in India on the same carriers is just 25,000 points one way in business class.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Overall, this is a welcome move by Aeroplan in allowing people book tickets for a lap infant on their website. It makes the process very seamless and also helps them reduce some of the backlogs that their call centers might also be getting inundated with.

  1. Is it possible to add the lap infant after booking, such as if you want to grab award availability before the baby is born but then add it to the reservation once you have a name and birthdate?
