People in the west of Ireland and those wanting to go there must be rejoicing right now. Aer Lingus have announced they are going to serve Knock to London Heathrow all year round from 26 March 2023.

The airport has issued a very happy press release, touting the benefits of the new service. Since Heathrow is considered a gateway to the world, it bodes well for travel.

Knock To London Heathrow

Aer Lingus have served Knock to London Gatwick for quite some time, and this service is being discontinued. The replacement, of course, is to the much more coveted Heathrow.

The flight schedule is planned to be as follows. From the UK, flights will leave London at 11:05, arriving in Ireland at 12:35. The return flights leave Knock at 13:05, arriving into London at 14:30.

This should allow for a decent amount of connections to the afternoon services departing from the British capital to destinations worldwide. British Airways are likely to codeshare on the route as well.

Interestingly, the airport press release mentions the services to North America out of Heathrow. Conversely, the Aer Lingus one pointedly mentions the 15 transatlantic destinations out of Shannon and Dublin, with extras available via London.

Overall Thoughts

It’s a new route for Ireland West Airport and I am sure Knock to London Heathrow will do well. Aer Lingus must think it will do well for them financially, otherwise they would use their valuable Heathrow slots on something else.

Either way, it will be good for the people in the area as well as tourism to the wild west coast of Ireland. What do you think of this new service? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
