Since British Airways kicked me to the kerb, I’ve decided to cast my lot in with other airlines. Aegean Airlines has a programme called Miles + Bonus and it seems fairly decent. I noticed the other day you can redeem miles for Emirates flights, which was a pleasant surprise.
I’m going to hit Silver with Aegean in November and Gold in December. This means it will be Star Alliance airlines for me going forward, which is totally fine with me.
Using Aegean Miles for Emirates
For quite a while now I have wanted to fly Emirates on their fifth freedom route between Sydney and Christchurch. Due to previously being a frequent flyer on an unaffiliated airline, I’ve not been able to justify booking.
The main reason for Emirates is to try the Airbus A380 in First Class, which is a price I can just about stretch to affording on this route. I’d also like to try their business class, but together it’s a lot of money for an experience.
Another happy thing here is that I’ll also earn miles for that, which also helps to defray the cost of the reward flight. Next time I head to Australia I’ll be booking this.
Overall Thoughts
It’s certainly interesting navigating a new frequent flyer programme and a new alliance. Lots to learn and many different airlines to try, which is not a bad thing.
Redeeming miles for Emirates will also open up possibilities on other routes as well. Considering EK fly pretty much everywhere you might want to go, this is going to be handy.
